The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 was host to two games on Saturday (23rd March). The first game took place between the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and the Delhi Capitals (DC) in Chandigarh. The second game saw Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) hosting Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
In the first match, Punjab Kings emerged victorious as they thumped Delhi Capitals by 4 wickets to kickstart their campaign with the win. DC was asked to bat first and they had a decent start the bat, thanks to David Warner (29) and Mitchell Marsh (20).
Shai Hope (33) and Rishabh Pant (18) made handy contributions but a real blitz came from the bat of Abishek Porel (32*). Based on the crucial innings from them, Delhi Capitals posted a total of 174 runs on the board. For Punjab, Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/28.
Shikhar Dhawan (22) played a vital knock for his team at the top. Prabhsimran Singh (26) also contributed well. But the heroes of the innings for Punjab Kings were Sam Curran (63) and Liam Livingstone (38*). They counter-attacked the Delhi bowlers and added 67 runs to take the home.
In the second game, KKR was asked to bat first and they had a torrid start with the bat. Although Phil Slat (54) slammed a vital half-century while opening. But at the other end, wickets kept tumbling as they found themselves tottering at 51/4.
Ramandeep Singh (35) came out all guns blazing and changed the momentum of the game but after he got out, KKR were under pressure at 105/6. But it was then when Rinku Singh (23) and Andre Russell did the carnage on the bowlers and brought their team back.
Andre Russell (64*) slammed a brutal half-century whereas Rinku Singh supported him well. The hosts posted a gigantic total of 208 runs on the board. For SRH, apart from Mayank Markande, T Natarajan picked three wickets.
In the chase, Mayank Agarwal (32) and Abhishek Sharma (32) gave the team a brutal start. The duo added 60 runs for the opening stand. But couldn’t convert the start they got. Rahul Tripathi (20) and Aiden Markram (18) didn’t look comfortable as SRH was left tottering at 111/4.
Heinrich Klaasen played a blinder scored 63 runs off 29 balls and brought his team back in the game. SRH was almost down and dusted but he changed the course of the game and put KKR under pressure. However, he failed to finish the game as KKR won by 4 runs.

After the PBKS vs DC Match 2 & KKR vs SRH Match 3 IN IPL 2024, Chennai Super Kings continued staying at the top. Whereas after the win over DC, PBKS bagged the second spot. Kolkata Knight Riders climbed to third spot. Whereas the rest of the teams are yet to open their account.
