United Cup 2025: Schedule, format, prize money, squads, where to watch

The third edition of the United Cup, the ATP and WTA tours’ joint venture, begins on Friday with prize money and ranking points at stake.

The mixed teams United Cup will feature 18 countries, divided into six groups of three each, competing in Perth and Sydney till January 1 before the majority of the knockout fixtures being played solely in Sydney.

Top-seeded USA, led by 2023 US Open champion and World No. 3 Coco Gauff, will be up against Canada and Croatia in Group A. Group B comprises 2024 runner-up Poland, Czechia and Norway.

Led by Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari, third-seeded Greece is in Group C with Kazakhstan and Spain.

Italy, France and Switzerland constitute Group D.

Prize money

The tournament offers 10 million USD in prize money.

Ranking Points

Up to 500 ATP and 500 WTA rankings points are up for grabs.

In Group E, defending champion Germany, led by Alexander Zverev, will be up against Brazil and China while Group F features Great Britain, Australian and Argentina.

Australian Open, the first Major of the year, begins on January 12, a week after the United Cup.

FORMAT

Each tie consists of one men’s singles and one women’s singles match featuring the top singles players, and one mixed doubles match. Singles matches are best of three tie-break sets. Mixed doubles matches are two tie-break sets with a deciding match tie-break (10 point) at one-set all.

In this edition, tactical timeouts will be allowed in mixed-doubles matches. The new rule will permit a player or captain to call a 60-second timeout to confer on strategy by pressing a large red buzzer in the team zone courtside. It can only be used while on serve, and not between first and second serves, with a maximum of one per team allowed during a match.
