All eyes were on Shreyas Iyer as he walked out to bat in the ongoing game between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024).
It was his first IPL game since 2022 as he missed the entire season last year due to a back injury. Recently, he also suffered a spate of setbacks in his international career. The right-handed batsman was not only dropped from the India Test team last month but also lost his central contract after reportedly not playing in the Ranji Trophy.
He bounced back by playing a fine knock of 95 runs in the Ranji final, helping Mumbai beat Vidarbha to clinch the title. The game against SRH was his first high-profile game since he lost the contract. While he would have liked to play a big knock in the game to shut down his critics, he failed to do so.
The KKR captain failed to lead his team from the front and was out for a two-ball duck. On the second ball of the fourth over bowled by T Natarajan, he ended his miscuing his drive to Pat Cummins at mid-off. The SRH captain came up with a fine effort to take the catch over his head and sent back Shreyas Iyer for a two-ball duck.

Talking about the game, KKR were 77 for 4 after 10 overs at the time of writing this report. Phil Salt and Sunil Narine opened the innings for the two-time champions. Salt got going by smashing Marco Jansen for three sixes in a row in the second over before Narine was run-out for 2 in the same over.
The likes of Venkatesh Iyer (7) and Nitish Rana (9) failed to get going as well as KKR found themselves reeling at 51 for 4. At the time of writing this report, Salt and Ramandeep were fighting it out in the middle for KKR.
