Truly Quality Bids for Fourth Straight in San Marcos

Truly Quality  will look to begin his 2025 season the way he ended his 2024 campaign—on a winning note. In the $100,000 San Marcos Stakes (G3T) at Santa Anita Park Feb. 8, the son of Quality Road   will not only kick off the new year but vie for his fourth consecutive victory.

A homebred for Augustin Stables, Truly Quality wrapped 2024 with three straight stakes wins, including two in graded company, for trainer Jonathan Thomas. Following the gelding’s success, Thomas had told BloodHorse he’d like to see the 5-year-old compete with the best of his division this year if he can continue his upward trajectory into 2025.

A true turf route specialist, Truly Quality will be cutting back in trip for the first time since March 2024 for the 1 1/4-mile San Marcos. However, considering he was given a brief freshening after his last-out Hollywood Turf Cup (G2T) score Nov. 29 and has recorded only four published works since that effort, the San Marcos appears the ideal tune-up for a more ambitious campaign down the road.

Regular jockey Vincent Cheminaud, who has partnered the gelding to his last two stakes wins, flies in from Kentucky to pilot Truly Quality.

The San Marcos also marks the 2025 debut for the remainder of the field, including grade 1 winner There Goes Harvard  and three veteran turf-runners who finished behind Truly Quality in the Hollywood Turf Cup in Nineeleventurbo , Divin Propos , and Dicey Mo Chara .
