The legendary pacer from Nottingham has had a stellar career for England as he retired from the sport after the Ashes, in 2023. He finished his career with 847 wickets across all formats including 604 wickets in Tests. He formed a deadly partnership with teammate, James Anderson as the duo wreaked havoc against the best batters in their time.

Nottinghamshire chairman, Andy Hunt said, “Stuart’s achievements at the highest level are quite remarkable – it’s highly unlikely we’ll ever see another English bowler match his record over the past 15 years, let alone one from within our county’s borders.”

Broad had finished as the highest wicket-taker for England with 22 wickets in 10 innings in the latest edition of the Ashes.

He further added, “Throughout that time, Stuart has been the perfect ambassador for Nottinghamshire – not just through his deeds with the ball, but also through his unstinting commitment to the cause for his county and his continued championing of Trent Bridge on the world stage.”

Broad also finished as the second-highest wicket-taker for England with a tally of 604 wickets only behind his partner, James Anderson who is still active and has 690 wickets. He is also the highest wicket-taker for England in Ashes history finishing off with 153 wickets in 40 matches.

Hunt also said, “It feels only fitting that the end of his home ground where he recorded some of his greatest achievements will now serve as a permanent honour to his cricketing career.”

Despite Broad being recognised as a specialist bowler, he also could contribute with the bat having the highest score at the No 9 position with a score of 169 which came against Pakistan in 2010.

Not many would have expected Broad to bounce back after he was smashed by India’s Yuvraj Singh for six sixes in an over during the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007. But he managed to bounce back in style as he cemented his spot in the English XI and went on to become a legend of the sport.

Not many will be able to replicate the heroics of Stuart Broad and it is clear that his name will be etched in the history books, not just England’s but in Test cricket history.
