Transylvania Stakes 2014 Contenders & Odds

Las Vegas, NV – Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky will play host to the Grade 3 Transylvania Stakes this Friday, April 4 – opening weekend of their spring/summer meet. The race will feature three year olds willing to go 1 1/16 miles on Keeneland’s turf track in search of the winner’s share of the $100,000 purse.

A field of 12 have been confirmed for the Transylvania Stakes – race 9 on Keeneland’s Friday card. Post time is 5:13 PM. Here is a brief look into the past performances of all 12 entries for this opening Friday Grade 3 stakes.

Storming Inti – Trained by Chad Brown, Storming Inti is a three-time stakes winner with grass stakes triumphs coming in the Awad Stakes at Belmont in 2013 and the Kitten’s Joy in January at Gulfstream. He has four wins and two third place finishes in six career starts and is coming off a good second in his only 2014 start – the Grade 3 Palm Beach Stakes at Gulfstream March 1. Global View -Thomas Proctor trained colt will make just his fifth career start Friday but has two wins and a second already. Last time out was an OK second in an Allowance after two straight wins including the Grade 3 Generous Stakes at Hollywood Park November 30 in his stakes debut and a maiden score October 27 in his second career start at Santa Anita. Jose Lezcano has the mount aboard one of the favorites from post 9.

Pleuven – started his career in Europe where he had two wins, a second and a third place finish in four starts including his last two there. Pleuven debuted in North America December 21 and finished an OK third in the Grade 3 Dania Beach Stakes at Gulfstream and was fourth last time out in the Grade 3 Palm Beach Stakes also at Gulfstream March 1.

Laddie Boy – was runner-up in the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes at Churchill Downs November 30 after one of his two career wins – an Allowance on this track October 20. Last time out was a somewhat disappointing fifth in the minor John Battaglia Memorial Stakes at Turfway Park March 1. Laddie Boy has two wins and a second place finish in seven career starts and looks for his first stakes win Friday. He is the only entry in the field with a win on this track and could challenge the favorites Friday. Laddie Boy will line up in gate 7.

Can’thelpbelieving – Irish bred H. Graham Motion trained colt started his career and finished second at Roscommon before shipping to North America where he has three starts. He broke maiden January 11 at Gulfstream and went on to a fifth in his stakes debut – the Grade 3 Palm Beach also at Gulfstream March 1. He has one start on this track – a second in a MSW in October. Medal Count – Dale Romans trained colt is coming off a fifth in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream February 22 after an Allowance Optional Claiming score January 12 and an eleventh in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. That followed an equally disappointing fifth in the Grade 3 Bourbon Stakes at Keeneland in October and a MSW score in his career debut – at Ellis Park September 1. Medal Count hasn’t been great in his graded stakes action but has two wins in five career starts ahead of the Transylvania. He leaves from the rail Friday.

Ry’s the Man – has two wins and three third place finishes in seven career starts – two wins and a third in three starts so far in 2014. He makes his stakes debut Friday having won two of his last three starts – an Allowance Optional Claiming last time out at Fair Grounds March 21 and a maiden win also on that track January 19. He has one start at Keeneland – a third in a Maiden Claiming October 6.

Hesinfront – Dale Romans trained colt is coming off a twelfth in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream February 22 after a fourth in an Allowance Optional Claiming here January 25 and a second in his only other stakes action – the Grade 3 Dania Beach here December 21. He broke maiden November 30 in his third career start – at Churchill Downs after a second and a sixth in MSW races to start his career.

Kody With a K – Chad Cook trained colt has two wins in eight career starts – both coming this year at Delta Downs. Last time out was an Allowance score February 22 after finally breaking maiden February 2 in his seventh career start. Prior to those wins Kody With a K had a second and a third place finish as his best results.

Picozza – Todd Pletcher trained colt broke maiden last time out in his fourth career start – at Gulfstream March 8 after a pair of seconds in MSW races on that same track. He started his career with a fifth. Picozza has improved every time out and hopes to keep the roll going for his scorching hot trainer Todd Pletcher.

Woodfield Springs – has just three career starts and finally broke maiden last time out – at Gulfstream Park March 1 for trainer George Arnold II. This after a fourth and a third respectively in a pair of MSW races also at Gulfstream.

Red River Rising – has one win and three fourth place finishes in four career starts – one of those fourths coming last time out in his stakes debut – the minor John Battaglia Memorial at Turfway Park March 1. His broke maiden in the race before that – at Oaklawn Park January 20.
