The 10 horses leading in the latest National Thoroughbred Racing Association poll are becoming further entrenched as the year heads into the stretch run. With none slated to run in the next few weeks, movement may be difficult to come by.
The top 10 remained the same from last week, with each increasing their points total with the exception of Up to the Mark , who holds the eighth spot. The Not This Time colt lost two points in the standings and is holding off Geaux Rocket Ride by six points.
Arcangelo ‘s hold on the top spot improved as he gained four first-place votes and 39 points. Those allowed him to expand the gap between him and the second-ranked Cody’s Wish (eight first-place votes) despite the challenger gaining 29 points.
Elite Power (one), Echo Zulu (two), and White Abarrio (two) round out the top five as well as the remaining first-place votes.
The closest ranking battle comes between No. 6 Gunite and No. 7 Arabian Knight . What was a nine-point difference a week ago is down to one.
Up to the Mark, Geaux Rocket Ride, and Casa Creed round out the top 10. Just outside of the top 10, Idiomatic jumped ahead of Bright Future .
The latest poll covers racing performances through Sept. 4. Full rankings can be found online.
