Jockey Flavien Prat, widely expected to win an Eclipse Award for his riding achievements this year, tied a stakes record set by Irad Ortiz Jr. in 2022 by winning his 79th stakes race of the year in piloting Tizzy in the Sky to victory in the $200,000 Go for Wand Stakes (G3) Dec. 7 at Aqueduct Racetrack.
An hour and a half later, Prat would take the record outright when Godolphin’s Poster narrowly won the Remsen Stakes (G2)—giving Prat 80 stakes wins this year. Fifty-five of them have come at the graded level, tying Hall of Famer Jerry Bailey’s graded record set in 2003.
Prat had his mount well positioned early in the Go for Wand by placing her in second, chasing longshot leader Rachel’s Rock . He then went after her on the turn of the mile race, and Tizzy in the Sky took over in early stretch and repelled challenges from runner-up Occult and third Movie Moxy down the lane to prevail by a half-length. The Todd Pletcher trainee was timed on a fast track in 1:35.64, paying $8.20 to win
Prat said of the record-equaling triumph, “It’s been a great season and I’m very grateful. It means a lot to me.”
KimDon Racing’s Tizzy in the Sky, a 5-year-old daughter of Sky Kingdom , won her second stakes race and first at the graded level. Bred in Kentucky by Westrock Stables, she is out of the Tiznow mare Tiz the Tide .
