Not even a slow start can slow the momentum of the reigning Horse of the Year.
In notching her fourth consecutive victory since a runner-up finish against malesin the Travers Stakes (G1) last summer, Thorpedo Anna recovered from a tardy beginning to score a popular victory April 12 at Oaklawn Park.
The reigning Horse of the Year raced 1 1/16 miles on a fast track in 1:44.27 under regular rider Brian Hernandez Jr. Heavily favored, she paid $2.40 for a $2 win bet.
Free Like a Girl ran second, and Where’s My Ring was third.
The winner is a 4-year-old daughter of Fast Anna out of the Uncle Mo mare Sataves . Kenny McPeek trains her for owners Brookdale Racing, Mark Edwards, Magdalena Racing, and her breeder, Judy Hicks.
McPeek paid $40,000 for Thorpedo Anna from the Grovendale Sales consignment to the 2022 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Fall Yearling Sale.
All three of the foals of racing age produced by Sataves are winners. Sataves also as a yearling filly by Known Agenda named After the Storm.
