N Jagadeesan hit six consecutive boundaries in an over off Rajasthan pacer Aman Singh Shekhawat.
Tamil Nadu opener N Jagadeesan scripted history with his power-packed batting, smashing six consecutive boundaries in an over off Rajasthan pacer Aman Singh Shekhawat in the pre-quarterfinal of the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Thursday, January 9.
The event unfolded early in the second innings when Tamil Nadu was chasing a challenging target of 268 runs. Shekhawat bowled a wide in the first delivery which also went past the boundary line for five extra runs.
Jagadeesan then went all guns blazing and wrapped up the over with 29 runs. It led him to secure the record for scoring the most runs in an over in List A cricket without hitting a single six. The wicketkeeper-batter mistimed the first shot but managed to clear the boundary at the third-man region.
Jagadeesan scored the second boundary with a beautiful drive down the deep point. The right-hander then showcased a brilliant uppercut to flick the ball over the slip cordon. Then, he once again targeted the point region where no fielder was placed.
He played a lofted shot towards the deep square leg to score the fifth boundary of the over. Off the final ball, the wicketkeeper-batter pushed it towards the fine leg to clear the rope. Courtesy of his power-packed batting, Tamil Nadu reached 70 in the first ten overs.
Jagadeesan registered 65 off 52 deliveries before getting dismissed by Kukna Ajay Singh. His blazing knock was laced with as many as ten boundaries. His opening partner Tushar Raheja failed to survive long and managed 11 runs.
Despite Jagadeesan’s efforts, Tamil Nadu ultimately fell 11 runs short of the required total.
Baba Indrajith and Vijay Shankar also made some crucial contributions. Shankar missed the fifty by just one run while Indrajith added 37 to the score. Among the other Tamil Nadu batters, Mohamed Ali scored a quickfire 34.
Rajasthan’s Abhijeet Tomar was named the player of the match. The opening batter smashed 111 runs off 125 balls to build the foundation for a good score.
Captain Mahipal Lomror also enjoyed a good outing and contributed 60. Varun Chakaravarthy was the standout bowler for Tamil Nadu, claiming a five-wicket haul.
