NEW DELHI: West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder has been ruled out of the upcoming T20 World Cup due to an injury he sustained while playing in the County Championship on Sunday.
As a result, left-arm fast bowler Obed McCoy, who was the leading wicket-taker during the team’s recent tour of Nepal, has been named as Holder’s replacement in the West Indies squad.
In a statement released on Monday, head coach Daren Sammy expressed confidence in the team’s depth and quality, stating, “We are fortunate to have such depth and quality in our ranks.Our reserves are all top class talents who have proven themselves in various formats of the game, most notably T20.”
Sammy further emphasized the capabilities of the reserve players, adding, “Each and every one of them is capable of stepping seamlessly into the team should the need arise.”
West Indies, two-time champions of the biennial tournament, are placed in Group C of the event, which they will co-host with the United States from June 1-29. The team is set to commence their campaign against Papua New Guinea in Guyana on June 2.
