Stakes-Running Filly Stripped Of Pennsylvania-Bred Status – Horse Racing News

||

The Pennsylvania Horse Breeders Association has stripped the 2-year-old filly Miss Ellary of her status as a Pennsylvania-bred after it was determined she was born in New Jersey, Thoroughbred Daily News reports.

The daughter of Social Inclusion made her debut in the Miss Tye Dye Stakes at Parx Racing – a race restricted to Pennsylvania-bred and -sired fillies – on Aug. 21, where she finished fourth for owner/breeder Cavanaugh Breen Farms and trainer Mark Shuman.

During a recent meeting of the Pennsylvania Horse Racing Commission, PHBA executive director Brian Sanfrantello said the PHBA received a tip that the filly was born in another state, making her ineligible for state-bred races.

After an investigation, Miss Ellary’s status was changed to “New Jersey-bred” and Cavanaugh Breen Farms was restricted from registering horses with the PHBA for five years.
