Stabile Named Finger Lakes Track Announcer

Anthony Stabile, who has spent the past 25 years talking about and writing about horse racing, is the new voice of Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack. Stabile will become just the third announcer in track history when the gates spring for the 63rd season of Thoroughbred racing April 29.

“Since I was a young kid, I’ve wanted to be a racetrack announcer and am proud to say my first full-time position will be at Finger Lakes,” Stabile said. “I’m looking forward to being a part of a place that is rich in racing tradition, where one of my favorites, Funny Cide, wrapped up his career.”

Stabile was the backup announcer on the New York Racing Association circuit from 2018-23 and currently is one of the track announcers at Yonkers Raceway. He also has called races at The Meadowlands and Freehold Raceway.

During his time at NYRA, Stabile also co-hosted the Talking Horses handicapping show as well as America’s Day at the Races/Saratoga Live on the Fox Sports family of networks. Stabile has been the virtual racetrack announcer and host of Kentucky Derby (G1), Belmont Stakes (G1) and Breeders’ Cup parties and seminars at Mohegan Sun Connecticut since 2003, and his handicapping and horse racing insights were heard on a variety of programs on Horse Racing Radio Network between 2014 and 2021.

Since Finger Lakes opened in 1962, there have been only two other announcers. The late Ross Morton, an inductee in the Finger Lakes Hall of Fame, called races from 1962 through 2007. Tony Calo was the voice of the track from 2008 through the 2023 season. Calo recently accepted a full-time role with Churchill Downs Inc., where he will be the full-time race caller at Turfway Park and Ellis Park.

“Many thanks to everyone at Delaware North, Finger Lakes—and to my two mentors, John Imbriale and Frank Mirahmadi, for helping to make my childhood dream come true,” added Stabile.

Chris Riegle, president and general manager of Finger Lakes, said, “We are excited to have Anthony joining our racing team. His vast knowledge of New York State Thoroughbred racing will serve him well in his new role.”

Stabile will call his first Finger Lakes race of the 91-day season on April 29. Post time for the opener is 1:15 p.m. Live racing is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday for the first two weeks, then the normal three-week schedule of Monday-Wednesday begins May 15 and runs through closing day Nov. 27.
