Las Vegas, NV – Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York will be the scene of the Grade 1 Spinaway Stakes on Sunday, August 31. A purse of $350,000 will be on the line for two year old fillies willing to go seven furlongs on Saratoga’s main track.
A solid field of nine juvenile fillies will take to the track in the Spinaway – race 10 on Saratoga’s Sunday card. Post time is 5:47 PM. Let’s take a brief look into the past performances of all nine entries for this Grade 1 stakes — the final race of track announcer Tom Durkin’s 25 year career.
Angela Renee – Todd Pletcher trained filly raced in graded stakes company for the first time August 10 and finished a good second after a great duel with Cavorting in the Grade 2 Adirondack on this track. Prior to that she had one start – a maiden score at Belmont Park in June. She has been competitive in both career starts – more is expected Sunday with John Velazquez aboard from gate 2 as Angela Renee adds blinkers for the first time.
Condo Commando – will race for just the second time for trainer Rudy Rodriguez – the first being a Maiden Claiming score by an incredible 12 lengths at 12-1 odds on this track August 3 – earning a very good Beyer Speed Figure of 85. She starts from the rail with Joe Bravo guiding her.
Curalina – Todd Pletcher trained filly has just one career start and it resulted in a second to the highly regarded Tony Dutrow trained filly High Dollar Woman in a MSW on this track July 27. She earned an 87 Beyer Speed Figure in that race – best of any entry for the Spinaway. Javier Castellano gets the call from gate 7.
By the Moon – has just one career start for trainer Michelle Nevin and it was a good one – a maiden score on this track July 18 by three quarters of a length (the third place finisher was nearly 10 back). Jose Ortiz will be aboard By the Moon in her stakes debut from post 4.

Winter Dawn – Wayne Catalano pupil will hit the track for just the second time after a maiden score in her debut – on this track August 3. Shaun Bridgmohan rides from post 6.
Ryabinka – the most experienced of all the entries for the Spinaway – four career starts with a win and two second place finishes. Last time out was an ugly seventh in her stakes debut – the minor Cassidy Stakes at Gulfstream July 12 after a maiden score in her third career start and a pair of seconds in MSW races in June. Joe Rocco Jr. will be in the saddle from post 8.
Bonnie K – ships in from Penn National for trainer James Lawrence off a maiden score in her only career start. Jose Lezcano gets the mount from the outside post Sunday.
