If Soldier Rising wins the July 30 Bowling Green Stakes (G2T), whoever bets on the runner-up will be wearing a wide smile.
The 5-year-old Frankel gelding will be running for purse money only in Sunday’s stakes at Saratoga Race Course after he was briefly and erroneously listed as scratched by Equibase.
“At 11:29 am., Equibase briefly but mistakenly posted Soldier Rising as scratched from the (Bowling Green),” said Pat McKenna, vice president of communications for the New York Racing Association. “As a result, the Board of Stewards ruled that Soldier Rising will run for purse money only.”
With that decision, anyone who finishes behind Soldier Rising in the Bowling Green will be elevated one spot for wagering payout purposes only. The distribution of the $250,000 purse will not be impacted.
