India’s ODI vice-captain Shubman Gill has been appointed the Men’s Player of the Month for February 2025. Gill was rewarded for his amazing consistency in this month where he scored runs in almost every match he played.
Shubman Gill played a three-match ODI series against England and then featured in India’s first two matches of the recently concluded Champions Trophy in February. He displayed some brilliant batting performances in all these games and was a deserving winner for the award.

Shubman Gill’s stellar numbers in February 2025
In the five ODIs played in February 2025, Shubman Gill scored 406 runs at an incredible average of 101.50 and a strike rate of 94.19. He struck two hundreds and two fifties during this period.
The only time he didn’t cross the fifty-run mark was against Pakistan when he scored a fluent 46 which helped India get a flying start at the top.
Gill emerged as the highest run-scorer in the three-match ODI series against England with 259 runs in three matches at an average of 86.33 and a strike rate of 103.60.
He struck 1 hundred and 2 fifties during the series and was also named the Player of the Tournament. Gill was also the Player of the Match in the first and third ODIs and was utterly dominant throughout the series.
Shubman Gill in Champions Tropjhy 2025
Shubman Gill went into the Champions Trophy on the back of some terrific form. In the first match of the tournament against Bangladesh, he scored an unbeaten 101 off 129 balls and took his team to a crucial victory.
Further, he smoked 46 off 52 balls against the arch-rivals Pakistan. Gill was aggressive throughout this knock and was particularly severe on Pakistan’s premier fast bowler Shaheen Afridi. He struck 7 fours during his knock.
While he failed to cross the single-digit mark in the next two games, Gill scored a vital 31 off 50 balls in the final against New Zealand. the 25-year-old stitched an important partnership of 105 runs for the first wicket with Rohit Sharma to give India a rollicking start.
Later, India cruised home with one over to spare on the back of a brilliant 76 from the captain Rohit Sharma. Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, and KL Rahul also made vital contributions with the bat.
Third ICC Player of the Month award
This is the third ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for Gill, who has made rapid strides in his short career. He had already won the award twice in 2023 during the month of January and September.
Shubman Gill is seen as India’s next captain. He is already the captain of India’s ODI team and is likely to take over the role from Rohit Sharma when the latter retires. While he is still a star in ODIs, he still needs a lot to do in the Test format.
Gill will be next seen in IPL 2025 where he will be leading Gujarat Titans. The upcoming IPL season will define his evolution as a T20 player.
