In what was a shocking move, Sherfane Rutherford was released by the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots last month. The franchise released the official statement, saying that the batter left the team due to personal reasons. At that time, not many paid heed to this, but the reports now have made a massive claim.
As per the reports in Cricbuzz, it is learned that the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots batter Sherfane Rutherford didn’t leave the team himself but was thrown out of the squad. The reports claimed that team management disciplined the left-hander but the exact reason remains unclear.
As per the reports, a local YouTube channel has claimed that Sherfane Rutherford was thrown out of the team due to differences with the captain and other members. The channel claimed that it was a similar situation to that of Kevin Sinclair in CPL 2023 when he was forced to leave Guyana Amazon Warriors under similar circumstances.
Basil Butcher Jr, the son of former Guyana and West Indies batsman the late Basil Butcher, revealed the issues, saying that Sherfane Rutherford had some issues with the captain and management. He added that issues saw the batter getting removed from the team. He told his YouTube channel:
“It seemed to be some issues. That’s what I’m hearing. There may be some conflict between him and the captain and maybe others, and that led to the team letting him go for the rest of the season.”

Sherfane Rutherford played four games for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024. The batter didn’t have the kind of impact he would’ve wanted in the limited opportunities that he got. He returned with scores of 1, 0, 34, and 0, and, after that, didn’t feature in the tournament.
Rutherford managed just 35 runs at an average of 8.75 and a strike rate of 194.44. Not only him, but the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots also didn’t have the kind of tournament they would’ve wanted. They were the worst performers this year as they failed to get going.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots finished last on the points table as they won just one game out of their 10 league games. They looked clueless and were the first team to be eliminated from the tournament. Saint Lucia Kings have reached the final and will be taking on the winners of the game between Guyana Amazon Warriors and Barbados Royals.
Rutherford has represented West Indies in three ODIs and 21 T20Is. He also has played in the Indian Premier League. The left-hander represented Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024 and won the title with them. He also played for Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the league.
