A strong Indian squad will be heading to Australia for a three-match ODI series next month, led by star batter Harmanpreet Kaur. Smriti Mandhana has been named vice-captain for the series, starting in Brisbane on December 5th.
The series, part of the ICC Women’s Championship, holds significance for both teams as they prepare for the World Cup.
The squad of 16 includes wicket-keeping options Yastika Bhatia and Richa Ghosh.
Young batter Shafali Verma is not included in the squad. She had managed just 97 runs from four appearances at the recent ICC Women’s T20 World Cup and put together just 56 runs from three innings in the subsequent series against New Zealand.
Tejal Hasabnis and Saima Thakor, who impressed in the recent series against New Zealand, will have another opportunity to showcase their skills.
All-rounder Harleen Deol is included in the squad after recovering from a knee injury. If she is included in the playing XI, it will be her first appearance in the year.
India women’s cricket team squad: Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Smriti Mandhana (vc), Priya Punia, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harleen Deol, Yastika Bhatia (wk), Richa Ghosh (wk), Tejal Hasabnis, Deepti Sharma, Minnu Mani, Priya Mishra, Radha Yadav, Titas Sadhu, Arundhati Reddy, Renuka Singh Thakur, Saima Thakor
Australia women vs India women series schedule:
