2023 Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1T) winner Master of The Seas is not the only top-class Godolphin-owned and Charlie Appleby-trained horse preparing for stakes action during the upcoming spring meet at Keeneland.
A seven-horse Godolphin contingent conditioned by the British trainer arrived at the Lexington track March 29 following two days in quarantine at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.
“They all went for a hack around the training track,” head traveling lad Chris Connett said of the group headed by Master of The Seas, who is pointed to the $600,000 Maker’s Mark Mile (G1T) April 12.
Barnmate Naval Power , a winner of six of seven races, is also aimed there.
Two of the Godolphin runners are eyeing opening weekend stakes. Stakes-placed Musical Act is headed for the opening-day $400,000 Transylvania Stakes (G3T) April 5, and Mischief Magic , winner of the 2022 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1T) at Keeneland, has a scheduled return start in the the $350,000 Shakertown Stakes (G2T) for turf sprinters April 6.
Group 2 winner English Rose , who has three wins in four starts, is earmarked for the $600,000 Jenny Wiley Stakes (G1T) April 13.
Appleby’s other two runners are headed for the $350,000 Elkhorn Stakes (G2T) April 20, and both have had success at Keeneland. Silver Knott was second, beaten a nose in the 2022 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1T), and Bold Act won the Sycamore Stakes (G3T) at Keeneland last fall.
Connett said that depending on how the contingent fares at Keeneland, some of the runners may stay in the United States for races at Churchill and/or New York. He said Appleby might be here for the Maker’s Mark Mile and the Jenny Wiley.
