Two American-bred horses sit atop the first Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings for 2024.
On the heels of their efforts in the Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes (G1) and the Saudi Cup (G1), Senor Buscador and National Treasure find themselves in a dead heat.
They finished 1-2 in the Pegasus with National Treasure edging Senor Buscador by a neck. They met again less than a month later on the other side of the planet. That time, the 6-year-old Senor Buscador came away the victor. National Treasure, one of two Bob Baffert trainees in the ranking, finished fourth.
The ranking, which features horses 3 years old and up, has Senor Buscador and National Treasure tied with 121 points.
Following them one point back at 120 points and in a four-way tie are Private Eye (AUS), Rebel’s Romance , Romantic Warrior, and Ushba Tesoro , who finished a head back of Senor Buscador in the Saudi Cup.
The next-ranked American horse is Saudi Crown , with 119 points. The 4-year-old son of Always Dreaming opened 2024 with a win in the Louisiana Stakes (G3) and a third in the Saudi Cup.
Nysos , who is the other Baffert trainee in the ranking, has 117 points and is the highest-ranked 3-year-old.
