Following his front-running upset in the May 18 Preakness Stakes (G1) at Pimlico Race Course, MyRacehorse’s Seize the Grey has vaulted into third in the National Thoroughbred Racing Association’s Top 3-Year-Old Poll. The D. Wayne Lukas trainee trails Mystik Dan and Sierra Leone , the 1-2 finishers from the May 4 Kentucky Derby (G1) at Churchill Downs.
Some of the leading trio, if not all, could meet in the third and final leg of the Triple Crown, the June 8 Belmont Stakes (G1).
This year’s Belmont will be contested at Saratoga Race Course due to ongoing construction at Belmont Park. The race will be run at 1 1/4 miles, shorter than its customary 1 1/2 miles because Saratoga has a different track configuration than Belmont Park.
Catching Freedom , fourth in the Derby and third in the Preakness, just behind runner-up Mystik Dan, is fourth in the standings, ahead of fifth-place Forever Young , the show finisher from the Run for the Roses.
The three leaders are unchanged in the NTRA Top Thoroughbred Poll, which represents horses competing for Horse of the Year.
Late-running Senor Buscador , winner of the Saudi Cup (G1), is first, followed by the mare Idiomatic , winner of the La Troienne Stakes (G1) in her seasonal bow, and Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes (G1) winner National Treasure . Master of the Seas and First Mission round out the top five.
