Seize the Grey Outruns Mystik Dan in Preakness Stakes

Seize the Grey  seized his moment May 18 in the $2 million Preakness Stakes (G1) under young jockey Jaime Torres at Pimlico Race Course, taking charge early and outrunning Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Mystik Dan  in the second jewel of the Triple Crown.

MyRacehorse’s Seize the Grey gave 88-year-old trainer D. Wayne Lukas a seventh Preakness win in the Hall of Famer’s legendary career.

The winner, a 3-year-old gray or roan son of the late Arrogate, raced 1 3/16 miles in 1:56.82 over a muddy track. A last-out winner of the Pat Day Mile Stakes (G2) on Kentucky Derby day at Churchill Downs, he paid $21.60 to win.

Mystik Dan, who tracked the pace in fourth early, bid outside the winner coming into the stretch but could not close the necessary gap. He managed to outlast Catching Freedom  in a close place photo.
