Following a second-place finish in the Parx Dirt Mile Stakes, Gunite dropped three places in the National Thoroughbred Racing Association’s latest Top Thoroughbred Poll.
Previously ranked seventh, Gunite is now 10th following his 1 3/4-length defeat Sept. 23.
As a result of the change in the poll, the three contenders beneath him—Geaux Rocket Ride , Up to the Mark , and Casa Creed —have all moved up one spot, sitting seventh, eighth, and ninth, respectively.
At the top of the poll, there was no movement in the standings as Arcangelo , Cody’s Wish , Elite Power , Echo Zulu , White Abarrio , and Arabian Knight continue their holds on positions one through six. Even the first-place votes, which were distributed 23-6-1-2-2 among the top five, remained unchanged.
There were some slight changes in point totals. As a result of Gunite’s fall in the rankings, he is now one point behind Casa Creed.
That’s not the only slim margin.
No. 3 Elite Power holds a five-point edge over Echo Zulu; White Abarrio, who is ranked fifth, is up eight points on Arabian Knight; Geaux Rocket Ride is holding off Up to the Mark by 15 points for the seventh spot; and up at the top of the poll, Archangelo’s lead over Cody’s Wish was reduced by three points to 16.
The latest poll covers racing performances through Sept. 24. Full rankings can be found online.
