Las Vegas, NV – Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario will play host to the Grade 3 Seaway Stakes on Saturday, August 8. Fillies and mares three years old and upward will take to Woodbine’s All Weather Track and race seven furlongs for the winner’s share of the $150,000 purse.
A field of seven will line up in the Seaway Stakes – race 8 on Woodbine’s Saturday card. Post time is 4:47 PM. Let’s take a look into the past performances of all seven combatants for this Grade 3 stakes.
Hillaby 9/5 – has just one start this year for trainer Mark Case – a second place finish as favorite in the minor Sweet Briar Stakes on this track July 1. She ended her 2014 campaign in style – a win in the Grade 2 Bessarabian Stakes at this distance here in November. Before that she looked good in six starts – three wins, a second and a third place finish against lesser competition. Hillaby now has four wins, two seconds and a third place finish in eight career starts and has two wins and a second in her last three starts overall. She hopes to continue the success in her second start in nine months from gate 6 with Patrick Husbands in the reins of the morning line favorite.
Marbre Rose 5/2 – Irish bred Christophe Clement trained filly had a win, a second and two third place finishes at home before shipping – the thirds coming in Group 3 stakes races in France. Since her arrival on North American soil she has been good – five starts with two impressive wins and two runner-up finishes. She enters in the heels of consecutive runner-up finishes in minor stakes action at Belmont Park – the Perfect Sling Stakes July 3 and the Intercontinental Stakes in June. Before that was a sixth in the Grade 2 Honey Fox Stakes and wins in the minor South Beach Stakes December 13 and an Allowance at Belmont Park in October. Marbre Rose has placed in four of five North American starts and hopes to keep the roll going from gate 4 with Alan Garcia guiding the second betting choice.
Skylander Girl 4/1 – finished second in four straight races last summer including the OLG Algoma Stakes in August, the minor Wonder Where Stakes two weeks earlier and the minor Ontario Damsel Stakes in July – all at Woodbine. She has been up and down since – she won the Grade 3 Hendrie Stakes May 9 after a good second in the Grade 3 Whimsical Stakes on this track in April but also had a pair of sevenths earlier this summer – the minor Zadracarta Stakes in June and the Grade 2 Nassau Stakes in May. Last time out was a bit of a bounce back however – a third in the Grade 3 Ontario Matron Stakes July 25. Skylander Girl has placed in three of her last five starts but isn’t scared to throw in the occasional dud. Jockey Emile Ramsammy has been tabbed with getting Skylander Girl a bit of consistency – from gate 2.
Endless Light 6/1 – Mark Frostad trained mare makes her graded stakes debut Saturday having posted two wins and five second place finishes in seven career starts. She had a win and three seconds at home before shipping and finishes second in her first two starts in North America. Last time out was a career best effort – a win over Hillaby in the minor Sweet Briar Too Stakes in this very track July 1. Endless Light has been competitive every time out and hopes to continue that trend Saturday from post 5 with Eurico Rosa Da Silva aboard the fourth choice.

Pirate’s Trove 8/1 – has five career starts for trainer Michael Stidham with three wins – all coming in her first three starts – the minor Duchess Stakes and minor Etobicoke Stakes on this track included. She has stumbled a bit in her last two starts however – a fourth in an Allowance Optional Claiming last time out at Fair Grounds in December followed an eleventh in the Grade 3 Raven Run Stakes at Keeneland in October. Pirate’s Trove makes her first start in eight months Saturday from post 3 with Florent Geroux guiding her, hoping to rediscover the form from last summer.
Miss Michief 12/1 – 2013 Pearl City Stakes winner, Dale Campuano trained mare has 18 career starts with six wins, a second and a third place finish – three straight wins last summer at Presque Isle Downs including the minor HBPA stake. She stumbled in her next three starts however – all stakes races including a fifth in the minor Maryland Racing Media Stakes February 14, a fourth in the minor Nellie Morse Stakes January 3 and a fifth in the Grade 3 Maple Leaf Stakes at Woodbine in November. Miss Mischief has looked better since that unflattering stretch however – an OK third last time out in the minor Trillium Stakes here June 13 followed a good second in the Grade 3 Hendrie Stakes here in May. Miss Mischief looks for her first win in nearly a year and to place in her third straight race when she departs from the rail with Antonio Gallardo aboard.
Cactus Kris 12/1 – has five wins, four seconds and two third place finishes for trainer Ryan Walsh. She had consecutive fourth place finishes at this time last year in graded stakes action including the Grade 3 Ontario Colleen Stakes and the Grade 2 Presque Isle Downs Masters but has two wins and a third place finishes in three starts since. Last time out was a win in the minor Satin and Lace Stakes June 14 after a third in an Allowance in May (both results at Presque Isle Downs) and a win on this track – the minor Ruling Angel Stakes in October. Cactus Kris has yet to hit the board in graded stakes action although she’s been good in lesser company. Jockey Mario Pino hopes to change all of that from the outside post 7 Saturday.
