Horse Racing Rebates

Red Rifle 2-1 – speedy Todd Pletcher trained gelding has six wins, five seconds and a third place finish in 18 career starts and enters off a good win in the Grade 3 Dominion Day Stakes on this track July 1. It followed his worst performance in some time – a ninth in the Belmont Gold Cup Invitational June 5, a decent second in the Grade 3 Excelsior Stakes at Aqueduct April 25 and a fifth in the Grade 2 New Orleans Handicap March 28. He did make some noise with a terrific win in the Grade 2 Hawthorne Gold Cup in November and also had an OK second in the Grade 3 Sycamore Stakes at Keeneland October 16 but has been a tad difficult to figure out lately. Red Rifle has placed in five of his last six graded stakes races overall and off a win should be a confident entry however. Alan Garcia has the return call on the morning line favorite from the outside post 12 looking for Red Rifle’s second straight graded stakes score.

Florida Won 4-1 – Mark Casse trained colt has nine career starts with two wins, two seconds and two third place finishes. Last time out was a decent second behind Red Rifle in the Grade 3 Dominion Day Stakes here July 1 after a pedestrian fifth in an Allowance Optional Claiming here May 22 and his career best effort – a win in the 2014 Grade 3 Ontario Derby here back in September. He has placed in his last two graded stakes tries and looks OK ahead of this race. Shaun Bridgmohan will try to keep the upward trend going Sunday when they leave from post 9 as the morning line second choice.

Pender Harbour 5-1 – Canada’s champion 3-year-old male of 2011 has 37 career starts – 35 on this track with 12 wins, seven seconds and seven third place finishes. He’s been a tad up and down but is coming off an OK third behind Red Rifle and Florida Won in the Grade 3 Dominion Day Stakes here July 1 which followed a good win in the restricted Steady Growth Stakes here June 6. Before that was a fourth in the Grade 3 Vigil Stakes in May and another good result – a second in the Grade 3 Valedictory Stakes on this track in December. Pender Harbour has quietly placed in 13 of his last 16 starts and could be a sneaky entry this week. Luis Contreras gets the call from gate 8.

His Race to Win 6-1 – defending champion and two-time grade III winner at Woodbine was last seen running a somewhat disappointing fifth in the Grade 2 Eclipse Stakes June 7 after a decent second in the Grade 3 Durham Cup Stakes on this track in October, an eighth in the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile and a win in last year’s Seagram Cup Stakes August 3. He has one other graded stakes score – the Grade 3 Ontario Derby in September, 2013. His Race to Win has five wins, four seconds and three third place finishes in 19 career starts and enters in OK form having placed in four of his last seven starts overall. Eurico Rosa Da Silva been tabbed with getting allowing His Race to Win a repeat win in this race he departs from gate 6 in just his second race of 2015.

Ami’s Holiday 10-1 – Josie Carroll trained colt broke maiden at first asking and recorded a great win the Grade 3 Grey Stakes at Woodbine October 6, 2013 – his only graded stakes score. Ami’s Holiday raced all three legs of Canada’s Triple Crown last year and placed in all – a win in the Breeders’ Stakes here August 17 followed a third in the Prince of Wales Stakes July 29 and a good behind Lexie Lou second in the Queens’s Plate July 6. He has just two starts this year – an OK third last time out in the Grade 3 Ben Ali Stakes at Keeneland followed a fifth in an Allowance Optional Claiming and a third in the Grade 3 Ontario Derby to end his 2014 campaign. Ami’s Holiday has placed in six of his last seven starts overall and looks decent ahead of this weekend. Gary Boulanger has been tabbed to ride from post 3.

Conquest Top Gun 12-1 – Mark Casse trained colt has placed in seven of 10 career starts – four wins, a second and two third place finishes. He made his graded stakes debut May 30 and finished a disappointing fifth in the Grade 2 Connaught Cup on this track after an Allowance Optional Claiming score here May 9, a third in a similar race at Santa Anita April 10 and a nice win in the minor Victoria Park Stakes on this track last June. He enters off an Allowance Optional Claiming score on this track which followed a disappointing seventh in the Grade 2 King Edward Stakes June 21. Conquest Top Gun has won three of his last six starts but looks to place in graded stakes company for the first time Sunday. Patrick Husbands gets the call from post 7.

Asserting Bear 15-1 – Reade Baker trained colt will try to place in graded stakes company for the first time Sunday – he has four starts in top company with a fourth in the Grade 3 Spiral Stakes in February, 2014 being the best result. He has been OK in his last four starts overall however – a second last time out in an Allowance Optional Claiming here followed a fourth in the minor Steady Growth Stakes, a third in the Queen’s Plate and a win in the minor Marine Stakes in May – all results on this track. He has 13 career starts with three wins, two seconds and two third place finishes and looks for a graded Stakes breakthrough Sunday. Emma-Jayne Wilson has the mount from the rail.

Doogie 15-1 – Josie Carroll trained gelding will hit the track for just the eighth time Sunday having posted three wins and three seconds in seven career starts. He makes his stakes debut having won three of his last four starts on this track – a pair of Allowance races this summer and a maiden score in October. Doogie steps up in good form but could be in over his head in this one. Omar Moreno has been tabbed to ride from gate 2.

Midnight Aria 20-1 – winner of the 2013 version of Canada’s biggest race in wire-to-wire fashion at 16-1 odds – the Queen’s Plate has just eight starts since. He posted an ugly eleventh in the Grade 2 Hawthorne Gold Cup in November and went on to a thirteenth in the Grade 3 WL McKnight Handicap in December but looked better in his first two starts this year. Two starts back was a second in the Grade 3 Eclipse Stakes here June 7 -it followed a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming on this track in May. Last time out was a slight step back however – a sixth in the Grade 3 Dominion Day Stakes on this track July 1. Midnight Aria has 17 career starts with three wins, three seconds and six third place finishes and hopes to channel some of his Queen’s Plate form as looks for his first graded stakes score. Jesse Campbell has the mount from gate 4.

Letro 20-1 – German bred entry had nine starts at home and looked good – six wins and a second place finish but didn’t fire in his only start in North America – a ninth place finish in the Grade 2 Nijinsky Stakes on this track July 19. Letro won a stakes at home in October but has failed to place in his last three starts overall. Jockey David Moran will be in the saddle hoping to change the fortunes of Letro from post 5.

Ultimate Destiny 30-1 – finished second in this race in 2013 and fourth last year in this race. He has just three starts this year and has failed to place in any – a fourth in an Allowance Optional Claiming July 12 followed a seventh in the minor Steady Growth Stakes June 6 and a fourth in an Allowance Optional Claiming in May. Ultimate Destiny now has 30 career starts with seven wins, nine seconds and three third place finishes and hopes to change his recent fortunes around from post 11 with Steven Bahen in the reins.

Tuscan Getaway 30-1 – has 23 career starts with just two wins, five seconds and four third place finishes and races in graded stakes company for just the second time – the first being a tenth place finish in the 2014 Tampa Bay Derby. He has looked OK lately against lesser company – a second last time out in a Starter Allowance June 19 followed a third in an Allowance Optional Claiming June 7 and a second in an Optional Claiming May 23 – all results on this track. Tuscan Getaway will likely be in tough Sunday when he lines up in gate 10 with Tyler Pizarro aboard.
