Aakash Chopra reacted to Sanju Samson’s father’s criticism of Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, and Rahul Dravid. Aakash Chopra said that Sanju Samson’s father didn’t need to blame Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, and Rahul Dravid for wasting 10 years of his son’s career.
India is currently taking on South Africa in the four-match T20I series. Sanju Samson smashed his second T20I century during the first match, scoring 107 runs off 50 balls with seven fours and 10 sixes. However, the right-handed batter was dismissed without opening his account in the next two games.
Sanju Samson’s Put Ji After Kohli, Dhoni, Rohit And Dravid’s Names – Aakash Chopra
In a viral video on social media, Sanju Samson’s father, Vishwanath, said that Dhoni, Kohli, Rohit, and Dravid were responsible for wasting ten years of his son’s cricketing career. Vishwanath stated that Sanju did not receive the opportunities, adding that the challenges made him stronger.
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said that it might not be appropriate to direct such blame at these players. Chopra believes that such statements could detract from the focus on the players’ performances.
“Sanju Samson’s father has said something very interesting. He put Ji after Kohli, Dhoni, Rohit, and Dravid’s names and said that they spoiled 10 years of his son’s career. I start thinking is it even necessary? I will be very honest,” Chopra said.
Should Have Got More Opportunities – Aakash Chopra
The former Indian opener said that he understands parents would always be biased towards their children. Chopra said that fathers often overlook their children’s shortcomings.
“Since I am a father, I can tell you that fathers are biased. Our children are the dearest to us and we don’t see any of their shortcomings. The same must be true for my father. He might be saying that Aakash was wronged and he also should have got more opportunities,” Chopra added.
Samson debuted in T20Is in 2015 but was inconsistent in the Indian team for years. However, his career turned after being promoted to opener. He became the first Indian batter to score back-to-back centuries in T20Is. The Kerala-born cricketer smashed his maiden T20I century against Bangladesh.
Have Seen This In Yograj Singh And Yuvraj Singh’s Case – Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra pointed out that Yograj Singh’s public remarks put Yuvraj in a difficult position, forcing him to distance himself from his father’s views. Chopra emphasized that such statements by parents do not benefit the players.
“We have seen this in Yograj Singh and Yuvraj Singh’s case. Yograj Singh says something and then Yuvi is unable to figure out what he should say. He wants to disassociate himself, that he doesn’t think like that. So the fathers’ comments don’t help. What will you gain from it? Whatever has passed has passed,” Chopra stated.
Yograj Singh has repeatedly accused MS Dhoni of not supporting Yuvraj adequately during his career. However, Yuvraj has dismissed these allegations, clarifying that these are his father’s personal opinions and not his own.
