Las Vegas, NV – The Grade 2 Sands Point Stakes will be run this Monday, May 27 from a very busy Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. The race will feature three year old fillies willing to go 1 1/16 miles on Belmont Park’s turf track for a purse of $200,000.
A strong field of seven females will line up in the Sands Point – race 7 on Belmont Park’s packed Holiday Monday card. Post time is 4:13 PM. Let’s take a brief glance into the past performances of all seven entries for the first of the graded stakes on the card.
Watsdachances – Irish bred filly started her career in Europe but it wasn’t until she hit North American soil that she emerged a contender. Watsdachances won her first two starts in America – the P.G. Johnson Stakes in her debut and the Grade 3 Miss Grillo at Belmont Park October 8 and then followed that with a very good second behind Flotilla in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf in November. In her only start since the Breeders’ Cup she was fourth in the Grade 3 Appalachian Stakes at Keeneland April 18. The Chad Brown pupil will be looking for a serious bounce-back effort Monday and could be the one to beat.
Unbelievable Dream – Barclay Tagg trained filly has three wins in four career starts – a MSW score in her debut at Aqueduct in November, an Allowance Optional Claiming at Gulfstream March 3 and last time out in a race that put her on the map – the Grade 3 Appalachian Stakes at Keeneland April 18. She has looked terrific in every career start and should threaten the field Monday.
Wave Theory – Chad Brown trained filly broke maiden in November at Aqueduct and had an OK third in the Grade 3 Florida Oaks February 2 but is coming off a tenth in the minor Edgewood Stakes at Churchill Downs May 3. Also in 2013 had a second in the Ginger Brew Stakes January 1 and a fourth in the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes April 6 at Keeneland. She looks for her first stakes win and enters in so-so form.
Caroline Thomas – Barclay Tagg trained filly has just five career starts with a second and two wins to start her career. She has two starts in 2013 – on OK third January 27 in the minor Sweetest Chant Stakes at Gulfstream and a fifth last time out in the Grade 3 Herecomesthebride Stakes also at Gulfstream March 2.

Kitten’s Queen – makes her graded stakes debut for trainer Wayne Catalano. She won her career debut in November and then jumped right into stakes company – she finished twelfth in the minor Ginger Brew Stakes at Gulfstream January 1 and has since raced to a pair of thirds in Allowance races – the last coming at Keeneland April 7.
Discreet Marq – has raced five straight minor stakes races in a row ahead of the Sands Point with OK results. She was second last time out in the Sweetest Chant Stakes January 27, third in the Ginger Brew Stakes January 1, first in the Lie Low Stakes November 22 and a fourth and a third back in October. She steps up in competition Monday and has been out of action since January.
Fusaichiswonderful – main track only entry won her first five career starts- all in Puerto Rico before debuting in North America with a fourth in the Grade 3 Forward Gal Stakes at Gulfstream in January. Since then she has a win in the minor Primal Force Stakes March 3 and a decent second in the Grade 2 Eight Belles Stakes May 3 under her belt.
