NEW DELHI: Opener Sam Konstas on Thursday made his Test debut a memorable one as he smoked an incredible 65-ball 60 on the opening day of the Melbourne Test against India.
Stunning the Indian pace attack in the opening session, a fearless Konstas, swung his bat like a sword, coming down heavily on the opposition.
At just 19 and playing his first-ever game for Australia, Konstas delighted the fans at the G but the same was not the case for the Indians.
And even one of the world’s top bowlers Jasprit Bumrah was not spared as Konstas ripped him apart early in the day.
Taking Bumrah to the cleaners in the 11th over, Konstas collected 18 runs off Bumrah, making it his most expensive ever in Test cricket.
As Konstas hammered Bumrah for a couple of fours, a six and two twos, Bumrah was handed an unwanted record.
Before this, Bumrah was hit for 16 in an over against Australia at the same venue in 2020.
Konstas’ stunning effort saw him hitting 6 fours and a couple of sixes during his stay in the middle.
Riding on fifties from the top four batters, Australia ended Day 1 at 311 for six after opting to bat.
After three Tests, the five-match series is currently tied at 1-1.
