Sajid Khan castles Matthew Potts between the legs with a stunner in 2nd Test

Pakistan off-spinner Sajid Khan cleaned up England lower-order batter Matthew Potts through his legs during the ongoing second Test match. Sajid Khan dismissed Matthew Potts, who scored just six runs off 10 balls, during the first innings at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan on Thursday, October 17.

England started the third day’s play at 239-6 with Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse at the crease. Sajid was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan on the second day as he picked up four wickets. Ben Duckett scored 114 runs off 129 balls with the help of 16 boundaries, while other batters failed to score fifty.

Sajid Khan provided an early breakthrough for the Pakistan team on the third day by dismissing Brydon Carse, who scored four runs off 29 deliveries. It was his fifth wicket of the innings. The off-spinner picked up the wickets of Matthew Potts in his next over and England collapsed to 256-8 before 60 overs.

The spinner clean bowled Potts between his legs as the ball hit the stumps. Potts attempted to play a shot on the leg side but missed completely. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the dismissal of Potts and wrote: “Sneaked through Another beauty produced by Sajid.”

Fromer England fast bowler Steven Finn said that Sajid planned this dismissal after observing Matthew Potts’ off-stump guard. He described the dismissal as a “nutmeg,” with the ball slipping through Potts’ legs.

“Sajid Khan has seen that Matthew Potts is looking to take that off-stump guard and this one is slightly flatter. It’s gone through his legs – the nutmeg. Playing from the crease is risky on this pitch that is now turning sharply,” Finn said, as quoted by BBC Test Match Special.

Pakistan Have Bowled Really Well – Alex Hartley

Former England bowler Alex Hartley said that Sajid delivered the ball wide of the off stump and allowed the pitch to assist with sharp turns into the stumps for right-handed batters. Hartley stated that Pakistan bowled very well to gain a crucial lead in the first innings.

“Sajid Khan has been bowling wide of the off stump and letting the pitch do the magic and turn the ball in towards the stump to the right-hander. That’s his main line of attack and Pakistan have bowled really well,” Hartley said, as quoted by BBC Test Match Special.

Jamie Smith was England’s last hope, but he was dismissed for 21 runs, leaving his team with a 104-run deficit. The last pair, Jack Leach and Shoaib Bashir, managed to reduce the deficit to 75. Sajid picked up the wicket of Bashir, who scored nine, to wrap up the innings and Leach remained unbeaten on 25.

Sajid ended with remarkable bowling figures of 7 for 111 in the first innings. He registered the best Test bowling figures in Multan. He surpassed previous records held by Abrar Ahmed, who took 7 for 114 in 2022.
