Rohit Sharma given Last Warning or else Mumbai Indians’ career could..

Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, continues to struggle with the bat in the ongoing IPL 2025, and his form shows no signs of improving. Rohit Sharma has once again failed to make an impact during the Mumbai Indians’ latest IPL 2025 clash against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium.

The experienced opener scored just 17 runs from nine deliveries before being bowled out by Yash Dayal. Rohit began his innings with some aggression, smashing a six off Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the very first over. In the next over, he followed it up by hitting two boundaries off Yash Dayal, giving hope for a big score.

Rohit Sharma’s flop show continues in the IPL 2025

However, Dayal had the final say as he broke through Rohit’s defense and sent him back to the pavilion, as Mumbai Indians fell 12 runs short of the 222-run target against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 20th match of the ongoing IPL 2025 at the Wankhede Stadium.

The Indian captain’s form is becoming a major concern for the Mumbai Indians; his role as an experienced batter remains crucial for the side despite Hardik Pandya leading the side. Following another flop show in the ongoing season, former India coach Ravi Shastri believes that Rohit needs to be more consistent for Mumbai to succeed in the tournament.

You want consistency: Ravi Shastri slams Rohit Sharma

The commentator has stressed that short cameos aren’t enough and that a player of Rohit’s caliber should be aiming to turn his starts into bigger knocks like 40s and 60s to make a big difference for the team, as the five-time champions have now lost four of their five games so far in the league.

Ravi Shastri said on-air during the MI vs RCB clash in Mumbai: “Ideally, you want consistency. Teams that go a long way usually have the top order firing. You need a 400-run season from Rohit Sharma. 15s and 20s converted into 40s and 60s.”

Ian Bishop is not happy with Rohit Sharma’s small starts for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025

On the other hand, former West Indies pacer Ian Bishop also highlighted the importance of Rohit stepping up, especially during the powerplay. Bishop felt that small starts like 12 or 15 runs aren’t enough for MI, especially from a senior player at the top of the order.

Ian Bishop said on commentary during the match, “They need more from Rohit Sharma, not just little starts of 12-15 runs at the start.”

Mahela Jayawardene backs Rohit Sharma amid criticism

Notably, Rohit has played four games in IPL 2025 so far and has scored only 38 runs in total with scores of 0, 8, 13, and 17 for the five-time IPL champions. In the last five IPL seasons, the Hitman has managed to score over 400 runs just once, and that was in the previous year.

However, the MI head coach, Mahela Jayawardene, has recently called the criticism unfair and backed the seasoned batter to return to form with the bat. MI will next face Delhi Capitals in the ongoing season on April 13 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
