New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and opted to bat first. They posted a total of 251 runs for a loss of 7 wickets. For India, the bowlers delivered impressive performances in the middle overs. Kuldeep Yadav (2/40) and Varun Chakaravarthy (2/45) each took two wickets, helping to contain New Zealand.
In the chase, Rohit Sharma set the tone with a match-winning 76 off 83 balls. He added a 105-run opening partnership with Shubman Gill. The right-handed batter failed to reach the triple-digit mark. Shreyas Iyer (48 runs off 62 balls) and KL Rahul (unbeaten 34 off 33) provided crucial runs in the middle order.
The match ended in celebrations as Ravindra Jadeja (9)* hit the winning runs for Team India. Jadeja, the left-handed batter pulled a short-of-length delivery from Will O’Rourke for a four. Rohit Sharma has joined MS Dhoni in an elite list after leading India to victory in the Champions Trophy 2025.
Rohit became the third Indian captain to win the prestigious ICC tournament. Sourav Ganguly led India to a joint title with Sri Lanka in 2002, while Dhoni secured a five-run win over England in the 2013 final.
