The team is returning to play after a break of over a month. They aim to recover from their loss in the ODI series against Sri Lanka in August, under new coach Gautam Gambhir.
This is India’s first Test series under Gambhir and his support staff. The series has important World Test Championship (WTC) points at stake.
India lead the WTC table with 68.52 percentage points, followed by Australia with 62.50 percentage points. Bangladesh are fourth with 45.83 percentage points.
The Indian team is preparing for a busy 10-match Test season. This includes a home series against New Zealand and the Border-Gavaskar series in Australia.
