Rishabh Pant mocks Sunil Gavaskar, mimics his ‘Stupid, Stupid, Stupid’ rant in viral clip

Indian wicketkeeper-batter and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant has been ruling the headlines even before the IPL 2025 gets underway, and Sunil Gavaskar will come up to every Indian cricket fan’s mind without a second thought.

During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar berated Rishabh Pant on-air for his reckless shot against Australia in the fourth Test. Now, Pant took the perfect revenge from Gavaskar as the former Indian skipper’s “stupid, stupid, and stupid” rant made an uproar across the social media platform.

Rishabh Pant mocks Sunil Gavaskar’s famous outburst

Actually, the left-handed batter shared a clip on his Instagram story where he can be seen recreating Gavaskar’s famous “stupid, stupid, and stupid” outburst against him. However, it was just a photo shoot. Pant was shooting an ad for the travel booking company Goibibo, and they selected Gavaskar’s famous line for the Indian wicketkeeper to promote the firm.

Going back to the incident, Pant had tried to play a scoop shot off Scott Boland’s full delivery but ended up losing his wicket in the crucial juncture of the fourth Test between India and Australia at the MCG. The ball took a top edge and went straight to Nathan Lyon at deep third man, who caught it easily, and India lost their sixth wicket and eventually the game as well.

Revisits how Sunil Gavaskar explodes on-air over Rishabh Pant’s costly mistake

Pant’s risky shot led to heavy criticism, especially from Sunil Gavaskar. Commentating at the time, the legendary batter was visibly angry, and his reaction was caught live on camera. Gavaskar strongly criticized Pant’s decision to play such a risky shot when the team needed him to stay.

Furious, Gavaskar said on-air at that time in Melbourne, “Stupid, stupid, stupid. You’ve got two fielders there, and you still go for that. That is throwing away your wicket. You have to understand the situation as well. You can’t say that is your natural game. I am sorry, that is not your natural shot. That is a stupid shot, and that is letting your team down badly.”

Meanwhile, Pant is currently gearing up to lead the new franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the upcoming IPL 2025, starting on March 22. The LSG will take on Pant’s former franchise, the Delhi Capitals, in their first match of the season on March 24 at the ACA International Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. Notably, Visakhapatnam is DC’s adopted home for a couple of matches.
