Edwin Maldonado on the Southern California shipper Tarantino took back as the field hit the backstretch, but nevertheless Red Route One was getting the run of the race while last of six early.
“In the first turn I could see they were kind of, not exactly fighting, but it was somewhat of a bar fight up front, and I’m just sitting behind them with a world of confidence,” said the winning rider Keith Asmussen. “I’ve been getting on (Red Route One) for the duration of his career. And this week I was telling the boss, ‘Oh he’s breathing fire. He’s ready to go.’
