RCB’s Anuj Rawat takes brilliant running catch to end Devdutt Padikkal’s woes in IPL 2024

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) keeper-batter Anuj Rawat was magnificent with the gloves behind the stumps in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The match between the teams is taking place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Anuj Rawat took some brilliant takes behind the stumps and helped his team save some crucial runs. One of the highlights of the first innings was the catch that he took to remove Devdutt Padikkal, who was struggling to get going at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

During the 5th ball of the over, Mohammed Siraj bowled a short delivery that was angling across. Devdutt Padikkal tried to pull but got the big top edge that went high in the night sky. It seemed that the ball would land safely and the batter would survive and get a chance.

But that wasn’t the case as Anuj Rawat sprinted back and called for it. He put in a brilliant dive and somehow managed to take the catch. That erupted the entire crowd at the RCB’s home ground at Chinnaswamy as the crowd got behind their team.

Devdutt Padikkal’s poor run in the IPL 2024 continued as he managed another low scored 6 runs off 11 balls. His wicket saw RCB making a comeback in the game as they picked two quick wickets following carnage by Lucknow Super Giants openers in Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul.

De Kock went on to slam a magnificent half-century and ended with an inning of 81 runs. After he got out, Nicholas Pooran made sure that he finished his innings on high. The left-hander scored 40 runs off 21 balls and put RCB bowlers under immense pressure at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Lucknow Super Giants posted a total of 181 runs on the board. For RCB, Glenn Maxwell was the pick of the bowlers as he returned with the figures of 2/23. Apart from him, Reece Topley, Yash Dayal, and Mohammed Siraj picked one wicket each.

Probably going to be a tough chase – Glenn Maxwell on RCB’s chances against LSG

Glenn Maxwell, who was sensational with the ball, opened up about his bowling performance. He said that he wanted to keep it simple and let the batters make mistakes. He believes that it will be a tough chase for RCB and admitted that they gave off easy boundaries.

Glenn Maxwell admitted that the catches that they dropped cost them a lot of runs. But he was hopeful that batters, who will get starts, will take them home. Speaking to broadcasters during the mid-innings, he explained:

“The plan was to keep it simple and wait for a mistake. Probably going to be a tough chase because it’s (bounce) a bit inconsistent, we have to be at our best. I felt like we gave a lot of easy boundaries at the start and wanted to get a bit of energy and a wicket. Dropped catches cost us. I think it’s two paced so we have to be at our best. Hopefully the ones who get started can go on.”

Glenn Maxwell didn’t have a great outing with the bat in the game against LSG. He scored a two-ball duck. The all-rounder would have been going through a torrid run with the bat and would be hoping to make a comeback in upcoming games for the team.
