The Indian team management awarded the Best Fielder medal in the dressing room after their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final win against New Zealand. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and captain Rohit Sharma were nominated for the prestigious Best Fielder award during the summit clash in Dubai.
India fielders dropped four catches during the final match in Dubai on March 9. The Men in Blue had a tough time in the field. Mohammed Shami, Shreyas Iyer, and Shubman Gill missed catching opportunities, while Rohit Sharma also failed to hold onto a difficult chance in New Zealand’s innings.
Ravindra Jadeja Has Been Showing Top Stuff Today – T. Dilip
In a post-match fielding ceremony video shared by the BCCI on Instagram, India’s fielding coach T. Dilip named Ravindra Jadeja and Rohit Sharma as contenders for the medal. Dilip commended the two players’ outstanding performances on the field before announcing Jadeja as the winner.
“Let’s get to the contenders. I think he has been showing top stuff today in his own bowling. But the way he chased the ball today, getting those bullet throws and also cutting those angles—Ravindra Jadeja,” Dilip said.
“I think last time when we spoke about skill and will, someone who really displays it all the time when he is on the field. Not only on the field but also with his leadership qualities. The way he is putting in those dives and catching—that’s Rohit Sharma,” he added.
No Effort on the Field Was Ever Too Small – T. Dilip
T. Dilip also praised the team’s commitment and unity during the Champions Trophy. He stated that no effort on the field was too small, as every player contributed to winning the title. The fielding coach added that players displayed both intensity and camaraderie on the field.
“I think if you really look at the whole tournament, there is one takeaway. I feel it is this—that no effort on the field was ever too small. Why I say this is because every single commitment on the field was fueling a common goal. And tonight, the goal is right in front of us,” Dilip said.
“We are champions. Fielding is two sides of the same coin. On one side, we always talk about intensity, aggression, attitude, and reflexes. On the other side, we always speak about camaraderie, trust, and the brotherhood between each other. And together, that’s what we displayed throughout this tournament—as brothers and with intensity. Well done, guys,” he added.
Ravindra Jadeja Played a Crucial Role in Champions Trophy 2025 Victory
Ravindra Jadeja played a crucial role in the Champions Trophy 2025 victory. The 36-year-old cricketer contributed with both bat and ball.
With the bat, he remained unbeaten on 9 runs. The southpaw joined KL Rahul after Hardik Pandya’s dismissal and also hit the winning runs to seal the title.
With the ball, the left-arm spinner was highly economical, conceding just 30 runs in 10 overs. He also picked up the wicket of Tom Latham.
This was India’s second consecutive ICC title, following their T20 World Cup 2024 triumph in Barbados against South Africa. India became the only team to win the Champions Trophy three times.
