Ravichandran Ashwin takes a brilliant diving catch to end Tilak Varma’s gritty knock

The fielding of Rajasthan Royals (RR) has been nothing short of exceptional in the ongoing game against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 as the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin have done a great job. The match between the two teams is underway at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Rajasthan Royals has made Mumbai Indians struggle in their own backyard as they have bowled sensationally well in the ongoing game. While their bowling has been worth the weight in gold, they have been brilliant in the field as well, which has put Mumbai Indians under pressure.

This was quite evident during the dismissal of Piyush Chawla and Tilak Varma. The Veteran leg-spinner was back in the hut, thanks to the brilliance of Shimrom Hetmyer. The southpaw put in a brilliant dive to send the batter packing for just 3 runs off 6 balls. He was promoted up the order but the move didn’t work.

After that, it was the turn of Ravichandran Ashwin. The off-spinner made sure that he also put in a valiant effort and took a brilliant diving catch to end the innings of someone, who was the lone warrior for Mumbai Indians in the ongoing game against Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

It was during the 14th over of the innings when Yuzvendra Chahal bowled a delivery that was thrown up full and wide of off. Tilak Varma reached for the ball that would’ve been wide but lost his balance as he attempted the cut shot.

As Tilak Varma played the cut shot, the ball caught the thick outside edge and lobbed to the left of the short third man, where Ravichandran Ashwin was stationed. The veteran off-spinner moved across and put in a magnificent dive to remove the batter.

Tilak Varma played magnificent innings for his team under pressure. The southpaw came to bat when the team was tottering at 20/4 and along with Hardik Pandya (34) brought his team back in the game. The duo added 56 runs together which ensured Mumbai got some runs under his belt.

Tilak Varma ended with an innings of 32 runs off 29 balls. He batted with a strike rate of around 110 and also hit two sixes in his innings. His knock made sure that Mumbai went past 100 runs on the board, which at once seemed impossible, especially with the kind of start they had.

After Tilak Varma got out, Rajasthan Royals made sure that they picked up the remaining wickets easily. It was expected that Tim David would step up for his team but he struggled to get going and was removed by Nandre Burger for 17 runs off 24 balls.

Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of 3/11. Trent Boult also chipped in three wickets whereas Avesh Khan and Nandre Burger combined to pick the three wickets. Ravichandran Ashwin was the only bowler from the team that failed to pick the wicket.
