It’s not often that a ‘double hat-trick‘ is accomplished in a game of cricket, which means a bowler taking four wickets in four consecutive balls, but Argentina‘s Hernan Fennell achieved the rarest-of the-rare feat in a match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional Americas Qualifier.
The 36-year-old right-arm pacer registered his name in cricket’s history books in the match against Cayman Islands, becoming only the sixth player in the sport’s history to take a ‘double hat-trick’.

His victims were Troy Taylor, Alistair Ifill, Ronald Ebanks and Alessandro Morris, as he dismantled the opposition batting lineup. The outstanding bowling performance culminated in impressive figures of 5 for 14.
With this achievement, Fennell joined an elite group of T20I bowlers who have secured double hat-tricks, alongside Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan, Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga, Ireland’s Curtis Campher, West Indies’ Jason Holder and Lesotho’s Waseem Yaqoobr.
Fennell’s landmark moment also made him the sixth bowler to take multiple hat-tricks in T20Is. His previous hat-trick came against Panama in Antigua during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Americas Region Qualifier event in 2021.

The exclusive list of players with multiple T20I hat-tricks includes Malta’s Waseem Abbas, Australia’s Pat Cummins, Serbia’s Mark Pavlovic, New Zealand’s Tim Southee, Sri Lanka’s Malinga and now Fennell.
But Fennell will rue the fact that his record didn’t come in a winning cause, as Argentina were bowled out for 94 while chasing Cayman Islands’ 116 to lose the match by 22 runs.
