Las Vegas, NV – Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky will play host to the Grade 3 Pin Oak Valley View Stakes this Friday, October 18. Three year old fillies will take to Keeneland’s turf track and go 1 1/16 miles in search of the winner’s share of the $150,000 purse.
A full field of 12 plus two Alternate Entries has been confirmed for the Pin Oak Valley View Stakes – race 9 on Keeneland’s Friday schedule. Here is a brief glance into the past performances of all 14 potential combatants for this Grade 3 stakes.
Nellie Cashman – Francis Abbott III trainee made the most of her graded stakes debut winning the Grade 3 Virginia Oaks July 13 after breaking maiden by 5 1/4 lengths at this distance June 21 in her seventh career start. Before that was a pair of seconds in MSW races at Pimlico. Last time out was another decent but disappointing DQ after stewards ruled she drifted – a third after leading in the Grade 2 Lake Placid Stakes at Saratoga August 18. She has posted four straight bullet drills ahead of this Friday and is the one to beat in the Pin Oak Valley View.
Unbelievable Dream – won the Grade 3 Appalachian Stakes on this track in April for trainer Barclay Tagg but hasn’t been the same since. She is coming off an OK third in the minor Riskaverse Stakes August 30 but before that had a sixth and a fourth respectively in a pair of minor stakes races. She has three wins and a third place finish in eight career starts and hopes a return to Keeneland will get her back in the winner’s circle. She is the co-highweight of 122 pounds and will have Rosie Napravnik in the saddle.
Overheard – has never been worse than third in nine career starts with three wins including the minor Alywow Stakes at Woodbine June 9. She was a good second behind Unbelievable Dream April 18 in the Grade 3 Appalachian Stakes at Keeneland and followed that with an OK third in the Grade 3 Selene Stakes behind Coffee Clique in May. Her last two starts have resulted in second place finishes – last time out in the minor La Lonrgnette Stakes September 21 and in the Grade 3 Ontario Colleen Stakes August 17. Overheard has been knocking on the door in graded stakes action and may be poised to break through Friday.
I O Ireland – Chris Block trained filly raced to a sixth last time out in the Grade 3 Pucker Up Stakes at Arlington Park September 14 after a nice win over a few of her Pin Oak foes in the minor Hatoof Stakes – the only time she’s placed in her last seven starts. She has three wins in 10 career starts and will be looking to avenge her poor result last time out as one of the few stakes winners in the field.
Summer of Fun – had some good results to end her 2012 campaign – a third in the Grade 3 Jessamine Stakes in October and a third in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. In four starts in 2013 Summer of Fun has a win in the minor Auntie Mame Stakes at Saratoga August 10, a second in the minor Hilltop Stakes in May and an Allowance Optional Claiming score in March. Last time out was a fifth in her only graded stakes action of the year – the Grade 1 Garden City at Belmont Park September 14. She has raced in some huge races in the past – that experience could be helpful Friday.
Every Way – is coming off a very good second in the Grade 3 Pucker Up Stakes at Arlington Park September 14 after a second in the minor Hatoof Stakes on that same track August 17. Her other graded stakes results include an ugly thirteenth in April in the Ashland Stakes, a fourth in the Grade 3 Rachel Alexandra in February and a third in the Grade 3 Mazarine Stakes at Woodbine in October 2012. She has two wins, two seconds and a third place finish in eight career starts for trainer Michael Stidham and will be looking to break her string of runner-up finishes this week – it wouldn’t be a shock to see her do so.
Yuzuru – Michael Matz trained filly makes her graded stakes debut Friday but is coming off a win in her stakes debut – the minor Forever Together Stakes at Delaware Park September 12. She has two wins and three fourth place finishes in her last five starts overall but hopes are she can build off her most impressive result to date. She has had success at Keeneland in the past and hopes to carry that on in the Pin Oak.

She enters having failed to place in her last two starts however – a fifth in the Grade 3 Pucker Up Stakes last time out and a fourth in the minor Hatoof Stakes at Arlington Park August 17.
Sustained – Dale Romans trained filly has finished in the money in all seven career starts – two wins, two seconds and three third place finishes. Last time out was an Allowance score at Belmont Park September 8 – her first win since a MSW in August 2012. She has raced one time in graded stakes company – a second in the 2012 Grade 3 Miss Grillo Stakes.
Miss Lamour – Michael Matz trained filly enters off her best career result – a second in the minor Forever Together Stakes at Delaware Park behind stablemate Yuzuru after a sixth in the minor Riskaverse Stakes at Saratoga August 30. She raced to a win and two seconds in a trio of Allowance races this summer but Friday marks a huge step up in competition.
She’s Popular – broke maiden June 29 in her third career start at Woodbine and made her graded stakes debut August 17 and finished fifth in the Grade 3 Ontario Colleen Stakes. She’s Popular has won two of her last three starts – the only times she’s placed in five career starts.
Stormin Elle – has four career starts with three wins and a second place finish – all at Arlington Park. She enters Friday’s race on a two race win streak – both Allowance races. She steps up in competition Friday but has looked very good in her career so far.
Hedonemewrongsong – Main Track Only entry is coming off an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Penn National after a ninth in the minor Auntie Mame Stakes and an OK fourth in the Grade 3 Virginia Oaks in July. She has three wins in six career starts and will be looking to place for the first time in graded stakes action.
Sense to Compete – Main Track Only entry has four career starts for trainer H. Graham Motion with two wins, a second and a third place finish. Last time out was an Allowance score on this track after a second in her stakes debut – the minor Twin Light Stakes at Monmouth Park August 31.
