England opening batter Phil Salt made history during the first T20I of the ongoing five-game series against the West Indies at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday (Sunday IST), November 9. Salt became the first cricketer to score three centuries against a single team in the T20I format.
England started the T20I series against the West Indies with a convincing eight-wicket win. Salt scored an unbeaten 103 runs, and Jacob Bethell added 58 off 36 balls as England chased down an 183-run target with 19 balls left. Salt was awarded Player of the Match for his outstanding performance.
Phil Salt Slams Third T20I Century Against West Indies
Phil Salt, who opened the innings with Will Jacks, reached his half-century in just 25 balls. Salt continued his aggressive approach and completed his century in 53 balls. The right-handed batter added an unbeaten partnership of 107 runs off 61 deliveries with Jacob Bethell for the third wicket in the chase.
It’s worth mentioning that it was his third century against the West Indies in T20I cricket. The wicketkeeper-batter scored his first century (109* runs from 56 balls) against the Men in Maroon on December 16, 2023. Salt scored his second century (119 runs from 57 balls) just three days later in Tarouba.
Australia’s Glenn Maxwell, the West Indies’ Evin Lewis, the UAE’s Muhammad Waseem, and Serbia’s Leslie Dunbar have each scored two centuries against a single team in T20Is. Maxwell and Lewis have both completed this feat against Team India, while Waseem has hit two centuries against Ireland.

Following his third T20I century against the West Indies, Phil Salt moved to third place on the list of batters with the most runs in T20Is against the Caribbean side. He has scored 581 runs in 10 innings at an average of 83.00 and a strike rate of 187.42. The batter has smashed two fifties and three centuries.
Veteran Indian opener Rohit Sharma leads the list of batters with 693 runs in 22 matches, including one century and five fifties. Former Australia cricketer David Warner scored 662 runs from 15 T20Is against the Caribbean side.
