Parth Jindal finally reveals why Ricky Ponting was sacked as Delhi Capitals’ Head Coach

When Delhi Capitals removed Ricky Ponting from his role as the team’s head coach, it came as a shock to the franchise’s fans and the players as well. But the co-owner and the chairman of the franchise, Parth Jindal has finally opened up on the removal of Ponting from the role.

A few days ago, Delhi Capitals announced through their social media handle that they are parting ways with Ricky Ponting. Ponting served as DC’s head coach for seven years but the team failed to win a single trophy under his tenure.

It was earlier assumed that Ponting’s removal from the role was due to the team’s inability to win a single Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy in such a long time. But Parth Jindal has revealed the actual reason behind such a big decision.

Parth Jindal breaks silence on Ricky Ponting’s sacking as Delhi Capitals head coach

Parth Jindal is also a scion of the renowned JSW group which is a sponsor for India’s contingent at the Olympic Games 2026. During a recent chat with CNBC-TV18 on the eve of the Olympics, Jindal was asked about the sacking of Ricky Ponting as Delhi Capitals head coach and the plan of the franchise.

The young co-owner showed confidence in the core group of his team which consists of Indian internationals like Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mukesh Kumar.

“There is going to be a meet where we actually give our views to the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) on the retention and release rules for the mega-auction. We have a great core of players at the Delhi Capitals. If you look at the likes of Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Tristan Stubbs, Mukesh Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, there is a very good core that we have,” Jindal stated.

“They have to be available in the country” – Parth Jindal on DC’s head coach role

When asked about Ponting’s removal from the role of head coach, Jindal reckoned that the coach needs to be available in India whenever he is asked to. According to him, this was the only reason for the team parting ways with Ponting.

“The coaching set-up that one needs to have, has to be full-time. They have to be available in the country, in the city at any given point in time. That is the sole reason why we have made this change,” Jindal added.

The franchise thanked Ricky Ponting for his valuable services in these seven years and wished him good luck for the future. Delhi Capitals posted a heartfelt message for the Australian legend and remembered his unforgettable speeches in the dressing room.

With Ricky Ponting as coach, Delhi Capitals had the best season in IPL 2020 when they reached the final of the tournament. Unfortunately, they lost to Mumbai Indians in the summit clash.
