Former cricketers Matthew Hayden, Paul Collingwood, and Graeme Swann picked their top 4 teams that can reach the last stages of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
All the respective 20 nations will first try to make sure they get past the group stages by staying in the top 2 qualifying spots to proceed to the next round. The group stages will be followed by Super 8s wherein every team seeded teams will be drawn against each other to constitute the final 4 teams that will play in the two Semi-finals.
The likes of India, England, Australia, and West Indies among other teams are in contention for the last 4 with different people having different views on the semi-finalists. Every other former cricketer have given their top 4 teams for the T20 World Cup and Matthew Hayden, Graeme Swann and Paul Collingwood have become the latest to give their predictions.
Matthew Hayden expecting to see India Vs Australia yet again in the final
Former Australia opening batter Matthew Hayden, who has been a T20 WC semi-finalist himself, backed India and Australia to reach the finale. Hayden wants the modern-day rivalry, which had lit up the WTC and CWC 2023 finals, to continue. It will be fair to say that Hayden will not mind the Aussies beating the Indians for the third time in a WC final.
Paul Collingwood says England and West Indies will go all the way
Former England All-rounder Paul Collingwood, who has fond memories from the 2010 T20 WC, sees England and West Indies as the top 2 teams. The last time Windies hosted the shortest format’s biggest event, Collingwood had led the Three Lions to their maiden ICC silverware by beating the Aussies in that edition’s final in Barbados.
Collingwood believes England can make it to their 4th T20 WC final and play against West Indies in the replay of the 2016 WC final in Eden Gardens. “Top two is going to be England and the West Indies, I think they will go all the way.”
The former all-rounder’s hopes are also high because England will come into the tournament as the reigning champions, having won the 2022 edition. Led by Jos Buttler, they had claimed victory over India in the semi-final and then defeated Pakistan to become 2-time T20 World Champions.
Buttler and co. will hope that their title defense won’t be the same as it was during the 2023 50-over World Cup.
Graeme Swann picks ENG, IND, AUS, and WI as the top 4 teams
Collingwood’s teammate from the 2010 T20 WC triumph – Graeme Swann picked India, England, Windies, and Australia as the 4 semi-finalists. Swann was in a conversation with ANI about the same topic and before naming the Aussies as the last 4 teams, he had used the word “unfortunately”.
It would be fair to say that Swann doesn’t want to see Mitchell Marsh’s side anywhere around the top 4. “The top four teams I would go for are India and England, and then Australia, unfortunately, and then the West Indies.” – Graeme Swann told ANI.
