Horseman Ray McCanna, who campaigned in partnership three-time Washington champion Queenledo, died Oct. 7 in Port Ludlow, Wash., reported The Spokesman-Review of Spokane, Wash. McCanna was 64.
Queenledo, who was trained by Ray’s brother Tim, earned Washington champion honors as older filly or mare in 2006 after earning honor’s as the state’s champion 3-year-old filly in 2005 and champion juvenile filly in 2004. The daughter of Slewdledo won five black-type stakes at Emerald Downs.
From 1987-93 McCanna trained horses, posting 157 wins from 1,157 starts. After that, according to the paper, he left racing for the oil business before returning to racing as an owner where his horses (individually or in partnerships) earned nearly $1 million in purses. Besides Queenledo, other top runners included Marilyn’s Smile and Shadrack.
