Former Australia wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist went back and forth with former England captain Michael Vaughan when they got together to figure out the batter who will end up with the most IPL runs in 2024. While Vaughan backed a fresh Virat Kohli to lead the scoring charts, Gilchrist named Yashasvi Jaiswal as the one to claim the Orange cap this year by taking note of the form he’s currently in.
Adam Gilchrist and Michael Vaughan got into this discussion in the latest episode of Club Prairie Fire podcast where the hosts asked everyone to put forward their choices for the Orange cap. The first person, one of the hosts of the show started off the proceedings by naming Liam Livingstone as the one to possibly end up as the highest run-getter.

To that, Vaughan did give his heads up but he also expressed his hesitation by asking if Livingstone will be able to do it in Indian conditions or not. Then Michael Vaughan named his favorite. He himself admitted that he is doing that for a bit of clickbait by naming Virat Kohli as the one to score the most runs because he is coming in fresh off a long break.
The former England captain then backed Indian skipper Rohit Sharma to register the highest strike rate in IPL 2024 to which Adam Gilchrist took a brutal dig by saying, “Well, Rohit’s fresh of a series against England so that’s infectious so he will be swinging from the hip.”

That kind of started an argument and Vaughan was never going to back down on that criticism as he quickly followed up and said, “He would have learned a lot watching England play so I think that will have really trigger him into action.”
Then it was Adam Gilchrist’s turn and the former IPL-winning captain with Deccan Chargers in 2009, literally bashed and taunted Vaughan by saying that what Rohit didn’t learn was the defensive ability of England. That was a cryptic dig towards Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum as well who infamously went away with a 4-1 defeat where their defensive mechanism was not on display at all.
“Absolutely, what he didn’t learn is how to defend so that is gonna work in his favor in IPL from watching England but Virat play well. I’m going with your man Vaughany that you earmarked I think this time last year I don’t think you’re the only one that noticed it but he’s had the bumper series against England – (Yashasvi) Jaiswal. He’ll be right up there in the strike rate and aggregate as well. He is on a burner at the moment, he’s got no fear and he’s my man for most runs,” Adam Gilchrist said via Club Prairie Fire podcast.
Vaughan says he forgot Yashasvi Jaiswal
In response to Gilchrist’s claim about Yashasvi Jaiswal, Michael Vaughan followed up by saying that he forgot to name Yashasvi Jaiswal but then appreciated Gilchrist for naming him.
That was quite quick for Vaughan to forget about Yashasvi Jaiswal – the batter who smashed 2 double centuries in the Test series against England and also ended up as the highest run-getter. Yashasvi Jaiswal ended the series with 712 runs from 9 innings and he also holds the record for fastest 50 of the Indian Premier League, a feat he achieved last year.
Who will end up winning the Orange Cap for 2024? We will start finding that out from tomorrow onwards.
