Las Vegas, NV – Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario will play host to the Grade 2 Nassau Stakes on Saturday, May 23. Fillies and mares three years old and upward will be featured when they take to Woodbine’s turf track and race one mile for a purse of $200,000.
A field of 12 have been confirmed for the Nassau Stakes – race 8 on Woodbine’s Saturday card. Post time is 4:45 PM. Here is a peek into the past performances of all 12 entries for this Grade 2 stakes.
Deceptive Vision – multiple graded stakes winning Malcolm Pierce trained filly raced in stakes company for the first time last May 25 and finished a decent third behind Solid Appeal in the 2014 Nassau Stakes on this track and followed that with a nice second in the Grade 2 Dance Smartly Stakes here July 6 and a win in the Grade 2 Canadian Stakes September 14. She has maintained her roll – last time out was a win in the Grade 3 Doubledogdare Stakes at Keeneland April 17 after a third place finish in the Grade 1 EP Taylor Stakes here in October. Deceptive Vision has placed in all nine career starts with five wins, two seconds and two third place finishes, has been competitive every time out and is expected to be again Saturday from post 9 with Patrick Husbands aboard.
Overheard – had never been worse than third in 14 career starts before a fourth last time out in an Allowance at Keeneland April 9 – five wins including the minor Alywow Stakes at Woodbine June 9, the Grade 3 Pin Oak Valley View Stakes in October and in the Grade 2 Dance Smartly Stakes over Deceptive Vision at Woodbine July 6. She also had a nice second in the Grade 3 Violet Stakes at Monmouth Park August 23 and a decent third two starts back in the Grade 3 Athenia Stakes in October at Belmont Park. She has three wins, two seconds and a third place finish in six starts at Woodbine and hopes for a second straight graded stakes score here. Eurico Rosa Da Silva has been tabbed to get Overheard back in the winner’s circle for the first time in four races when she leaves from post 3.
Stellar Path – Christophe Clement trained French bred filly had five wins, three seconds and a third place finish in 13 career starts at home including a pair of stakes – the best being the Group 3 Prix des Reservoirs in October, 2013. She made her debut in North America April 17 and promptly won the minor Plenty of Grade Stakes at Aqueduct – she now has two wins and a second place finish in her last four starts overall. Stellar Path hopes to keep the roll going and looks for her first North American graded stakes score from gate 4 with Luis Saez aboard.
Strut the Course – Last year’s Canadian champion older female won the Grade 3 Maple Leaf Stakes on this track in November to cap a three race win streak here. She has three stakes wins on this track and has posted seven wins, three seconds and two third place finishes in 17 career starts. Last time out was a career worst performance however – a seventh in the Grade 2 Falls City Handicap at Churchill Downs November 27 in her only race away from Woodbine. Strut the Course returns to her favorite track, has a win and two close runner-up finishes in three career starts on turf and makes her 2015 debut Saturday with Luis Contreras aboard from the rail.
Sky Treasure – Mark Casse trained filly has 14 career starts with three wins, two seconds and two third place finishes – a win, a second and a third in six starts last year. She was a good second in the Grade 3 Royal North Stakes at Woodbine July 27 and followed that with an Allowance Optional Claiming score August 22 – also on that track August 22. She has failed to place in her last three starts – a fifth last time out in the Grade 3 Wilshire Stakes April 26 at Santa Anita followed a pair of fourths – the minor Wishing Well Stakes in February and in the Grade 2 Monrovia Stakes in January. She also had an OK third in the Grade 2 Bessarabian Stakes here in November. Sky Treasure looks for her first win since August and to place in a race for the first time this year. Gary Boulanger will be in the reins from post 7 as Sky Treasure looks to snap a slump Saturday.

Skylander Girl – finished second in four straight races last summer including the OLG Algoma Stakes in August, the minor Wonder Where Stakes two weeks earlier and the minor Ontario Damsel Stakes in July – all at Woodbine. She has been up and down since – a terrific win last time out here in the Grade 3 Hendrie Stakes May 9 followed a good second behind Unspurned in the Grade 3 Whimsical Stakes on this track, a ninth in the Grade 3 Suwannee River Stakes February 7 at Gulfstream and a decent second in the Grade 2 Marshua’s River Stakes January 10. Other results include a third in the minor Jammed Lovely Stakes in November, an Allowance Optional Claiming score and a third in the Grade 2 Canadian Stakes in September – the last three at Woodbine. Skylander Girl has 22 career starts with four wins seven seconds two third place finishes and enters off the best two finishes of her career. She hopes to keep the upward trend going Saturday with Emile Ramsammy guiding he from gate 2.
Resistivity – had a third in the 2014 Grade 2 Forward Gal Stakes at Gulfstream January 25 after breaking maiden in her third career start. She recorded a very disappointing tenth in the Ashland Stakes last April 5 and has just two starts since for trainer Mark Casse. Last time out was an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Gulfstream March 6 after a second in a similar race in January. Resistivity has three wins, two seconds and a third place finish in eight career starts and will be looking to keep the good results going Saturday. Alan Garcia has the mount from post 11.
Surtsey – had a couple of minor stakes scores on this track in 2012/2013. She finished fifth in this race last year and has been largely ineffective since. Last time out was a sixth in the minor Powder Break Stakes at Gulfstream April 25 after a fifth in the minor River Monster Stakes here in October, a nice win in the minor Avowal Stakes on this track in September and an eighth in the minor West Virginia Senate President’s Cup at Mountaineer in August. Surtsey has placed in just one of her last six starts (the Avowal score) and hasn’t looked great in her last two starts overall. Omar Moreno has been tabbed to ride from post 5.
Llanarmon – won the Grade 2 Natalma Stakes on this track in her second career start – in September, 2013 and has been up and down since. She enters off a second in an Allowance April 17 at Keeneland which followed a fourth in the Grade 3 Maple Leaf Stakes here in November and a win in the minor Carotene Stakes on this track in October. Llanarmon has three wins, a second and four third place finishes in 12 career starts and looks for a second career graded stakes score Saturday. She has placed in three of her last four starts and departs from gate 6 with Emma-Jayne Watson in the irons.
Copper Kitten – David Bell trained filly makes her stakes debut Saturday having placed in seven of eight career starts – two wins, three seconds and two third place finishes – all on this track. Last time out was a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming April 26 after two straight wins including an Allowance in November and a maiden score in October. Copper Kitten has been in every race since her debut and looks ready for her step up in competition. Gerry Olguin gets the call from gate 8.
Silent Star – David Bell trained mare made her graded stakes debut November 16 and finished an OK fourth in the Grade 2 Bessarabian Stakes on this track and was sixth in her only other graded stakes try – last time out in the Grade 3 Whimsical Stakes here April 18. Those results followed a third in the minor River Memories Stakes October 5 and a second in the minor Classy n’ Smart Stakes September 28 – both coming on this track. She looks for her first win since the minor Victoriana Stakes in July and to place in a race for the first time in three starts with Justin Stein in the irons from gate 10.
Winning Rhythm – has 13 career starts with three wins, two seconds and three third place finishes and is coming off a respectable third in the Grade 2 Santa Ana Stakes March 15. Before that she failed to place in three starts – a fifth in the Grade 2 Buena Vista Stakes in February followed a fourth in the listed Megahertz Stakes January 17 and a fifth in the Grade 3 Red Carpet Handicap in November. She did have an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Santa Anita October 9 after another Allowance Optional Claiming score July 26 but has been just OK since. Winning Rhythm hasn’t been great lately and looks for her first win in stakes company Sunday from the outside post with Jesse Campbell in the reins.
