Ravichandran Ashwin has been impressive in the ongoing ODI series against Australia playing an important role in handing India a 2-0 lead.

Yuzvendra Chahal’s latest social media post has perfectly summarised Ravichandran Ashwin’s stature in the pantheon of bowling greats.

The Indian team is hosting Australia for a three-match ODI series with Ashwin making his return to the format after a gap of nearly 20 months.

The seasoned campaigner was quite effective in the 2nd ODI in Indore where he accounted for David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne and Josh Inglis as India went on to win by 99 runs via DLS method.

The brilliant performance from the veteran India bowler saw him become the highest Indian wicket-taker— 145— against Australia across all formats, surpassing Anil Kumble’s tally of 142.

The historic feat produced an epic post from Chahal on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Ravichandran Ashwin name is enough @ashwinravi99 #Legend #INDvsAUS,” the post read.

Ashwin was recalled to the Indian ODI squad against Australia for their ongoing series after a long absence from the format. His inclusion was frowned upon by many as Ashwin was part of neither the 15-man squad for the 2023 World Cup nor the recent Asian Cup triumph in Sri Lanka

His two games against South Africa in 2022 were his first appearances in the format in five years since 2017.

Ashwin did not disappoint against the Aussies.

In the first game in Mohali, he picked up the wicket of Labuschagne, helping India secure a comfortable five-wicket victory.

Ashwin was in a different avatar altogether in the following game of the series. His three quick wickets helped the hosts to clinch a resounding series clinching win.

Meanwhile, Chahal is not a part of Team India squad for the upcoming World Cup on home soil. The decision was surprising for many as Chahal had proven to be one of India’s leading spin bowlers in recent months.

His strengths lie in his dynamic skillset. The legspinner possesses the ability to turn the ball both ways. He can also deliver a wide range of balls including googlies, flippers and sliders.

Chahal’s extreme precision also allows him to bowl slower balls at will. Yet, it was not enough to earn a spot in the upcoming World Cup squad.

India still have one game left against Australia. The third and final ODI is scheduled to be played in Rajkot on Wednesday.
