Godolphin released a statement July 31 regarding the status of jockey Richard Mullen, who was unseated from Rebel’s Romance during Sunday’s Bowling Green Stakes (G2T) at Saratoga Race Course.
According to Godolphin, Mullen “received immediate medical attention at the course and was assessed to be conscious with movement in all four limbs. He was transferred to the Albany Medical Center, where he remains under medical care.”
The statement also indicated that Godolphin homebred Rebel’s Romance was “unhurt in the incident.” The 2022 Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1T) winner was running in sixth position before clipping heels with a rival and stumbling on the far turn.
No other horses or riders were involved or injured in the spill.
Rebel’s Romance, a three-time group 1 winner, was making his first start since finishing seventh in the Dubai Sheema Classic (G1) in March for trainer Charlie Appleby. The 5-year-old Dubawi gelding had been favored in the Bowling Green, which was won by longshot Channel Maker .
