Young Mumbai batter Ayush Mhatre is on the radar of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction. As per the reports in the Times of India, it is learned that the youngster has caught the attention of the former skipper of the team, MS Dhoni.
The reports claimed that 17-year-old opener Ayush Mhatre has been called for trials by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) mega-auction. He came to the notice after his performances in the ongoing domestic season for Mumbai.
Ayush Mhatre made his debut for Mumbai in the Irani Cup. The opening batter didn’t take long to make an impact. He slammed a terrific half-century on his debut in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25. After that, went on to play his innings in the game against Maharashtra.
Ayush Mhatre’s performances in domestic cricket impress MS Dhoni
Ayush Mhatre slammed 176 off 232 balls and also stitched a 200-run stand with Shreyas Iyer. Overall, he has an impressive record in his short career so far. The batter has scored 321 runs in five first-class matches at an average of 35.66 with a century and a half-century.
His performances in the domestic circuit have impressed the scouting team of Chennai Super Kings as well as former skipper MS Dhoni. The franchise reportedly has asked young batters to attend the selection trials between November 16 and 23 ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.

The Chennai Super Kings trials ahead of the IPL 2025 auction will be taking place during the six-day break between the fifth round of the Ranji Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Along with Mhatre, some other young players are expected to be there as well.
The reports claimed that the CEO of Chennai Super Kings, Kasi Viswanathan, had asked Mumbai Cricket Association secretary Abhay Hadap in an email on October 24 to allow Ayush Mhatre to attend the trials in Chennai.
It will be a massive opportunity for young Ayush Mhatre to showcase his talent to one of the biggest franchises in the league. If he gets picked by Chennai Super Kings, it’s fair to say that his career will only go high as he gets to learn from the best in MS Dhoni.

MS Dhoni will be playing another season in the Indian Premier League. The keeper-batter was retained under the uncapped category by the franchise. He will be getting INR 4 crore for the next edition and it will be a massive boost for the team going into next season.
MS Dhoni will be playing under the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was named captain of the team last year. Along with these two, the franchise has retained Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube, and Matheesha Pathirana.
