Legendary India captain MS Dhoni has landed himself in huge legal trouble after the Jharkhand Housing Board started an investigation on him for allegedly using his residential property for commercial objectives.
The concerned land at Ranchi’s Harmu Road was awarded to Dhoni by the Jharkhand government for his illustrious achievements in the world of cricket. The land is believed to be spread across 10,000 square feet.

MS Dhoni lands in big legal trouble
According to a report in India Today, MS Dhoni’s previous residence has a diagnostic lab which prompted the authorities to initiate a legal investigation against him. The establishment of a diagnostic lab means that commercial purposes are being served in a residential area.
According to the Jharkhand Housing Board chairman Sanjay Lal Paswan, the use of residential land for commercial purposes is illegal. He claimed to have received complaints on this matter and has also asked the officials to look into it.
“The state housing board’s rules dictate that plots allotted for residential purposes could not be used for commercial gains. We have received some complaints. I have asked the officials to probe the matter. If the allegations are found to be true, then a notice will be issued to (MS) Dhoni,” JHB chairman Sanjay Lal Paswan was quoted as saying by TOI.
If the charges are proven to be correct after the complete investigation, MS Dhoni will be served a legal notice by the Jharkhand Housing Board. After the notice, further actions will be taken accordingly.
Where is MS Dhoni currently living?
Although MS Dhoni was awarded this land to serve residential purposes, he is not living there. The former India skipper is currently living on Simaliya Ring Road which has a seven-acre facility.
It is situated around 25 km from the awarded facility on Harmu Road. It took almost three years to build Dhoni’s new home where he is currently living along with his family. The former India skipper and his family moved here in 2017 when he was still an active international cricketer.
Dhoni can be seen numerous times around his current residence doing various activities like farming, riding bikes, and meeting his fans. Despite being a huge global figure, he still prefers to stay in his home city.
When did MS Dhoni retire?
MS Dhoni retired from international cricket in August 2020. His last international match was the 2019 ODI World Cup semi-final against New Zealand where India suffered a heartbreaking defeat.
Despite retiring from international cricket, Dhoni has continued to play in the India Premier League over the years. He even led Chennai Super Kings to an IPL win in 2023 but handed over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad before the 2024 IPL season.
However, CSK had a poor season and couldn’t qualify for the playoffs. Over the last few years, Dhoni has changed his role to a big-hitter down the order who likes to make an impact in the few balls he faces.
The legendary wicketkeeper-batter scored 161 runs in 14 matches of IPL 2024 at a blistering strike rate of 220.55. Despite not being in a good physical condition, he has shown his dedication for the franchise and will also be seen in IPL 2025.
