India fast-bowler Mohammed Siraj, on Friday (October 11), officially took charge as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) after reporting to the Director General of Police (DGP), Telangana.
In July this year, the Telangana government announced Group-1 jobs for the cricketer as well as two-time world champion boxer Nikhat Zareen in appreciation of their outstanding performance in their respective sports.
After the announcement from state Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the state government went on to amend the Telangana (Regulation of appointments to public services and rationalisation of staff pattern and pay structure) Act, 1994 to facilitate the appointments.
The Telangana chief minister announced the job for Mohammed Siraj after he helped Team India win the T20 World Cup in June. The right-arm pacer was the only player from his state in India’s victorious squad. Before that, the fast-bowler also plied his trade for Team India in the World Test Championship final and the ODI World Cup last year.
Last year, he had also helped India win the Asia Cup after taking a sensational 6-wicket haul in the final against Sri Lanka. At present, Mohammed Siraj is an indispensable part of the Indian team in all three formats. His journey in the game has been absolutely phenomenal.
While he made his debut for India in 2017, he lost his place soon after failing to make an impact. However, he worked hard on his bowling and earned a recall before cementing his place in all three formats.
Mohammed Siraj takes charge as DSP:
With Mohammed Siraj bringing laurels for the country as well as the state, the Telangana government decided to honor him by giving him a Group-1 job.
He reported to the Telangana DGP on Friday. The Team India star was accompanied by Member of Parliament M. Anil Kumar Yadav and Congress leader Mohammed Faheemuddin Qureshi.

The 30-year-old was last seen in action during the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. Siraj played both the Tests and picked up 4 wickets to help India clean sweep the series. For the ongoing T20I series between India and Bangladesh, he is one of the several senior players who have been rested.
Siraj is likely to return to action later this month when India host New Zealand for a three-match Test series. The first Test is scheduled to be played from October 16 in Bengaluru. After the New Zealand Tests, Team India will tour Australia for a five-match Test series.
